The Bottom Line: I find the McGill Star Hole Punch Egonomic Design featuring cushioned comfort grips to be comfortable during usage for my small, arthritic hands.
McGill Corporation's 15 Sheet Capacity, ¼ inch 2 inch Reach 1 Hole PunchlineTM Star Shape paper punch is an Osage County First Grade Favorite.
The hole punch also known as holing pincer, a paper punch, and hole puncher, in addition to being called a perforator at times depending upon where you live a is a nifty office, classroom or crafting appliance used to engender holes in sheets of paper.
The old cigarette ad proclaimed -I'd walk a mile for X brand cigarette-, Osage County First Grade would walk to the sea and back for a star. And, a star punch is even more special in the eyes of these Little Learners than is one stamped, glued or drawn by hand.
I find the McGill Star Shape Punch Egonomic Design featuring cushioned comfort grips to be comfortable during usage for my small, arthritic hands.
After using a series -didn't - last - long - paper punches in the classroom; I have decided on several of the McGill Punchline series. Osage County First Grade is principally pleased with the Valentine punch I use in February, and the Star punch which we use throughout the school term.
Our Senior Student aide listens to Little Readers read aloud each day, followed by the addition of one more star punch to the Little Reader's reading chart as we move closer to our goal of reading a minimum of 25 books per student this term. Osage County First Grade is excited to realize they will each receive a nice reading certificate from our State Superintendent of Education.
Back in the late 1880s when passenger train travel was common here in the United States, conductor's needed a rapid and simple process for indicating that a passenger ticket was voided; patents for a pair of so-called conductor punches appeared in 1885 and 1893. Those first designs offered by Massachusetts resident Benjamin Smith, and New Jerseyite Charles Brokes greatly resembled the design of the one hole, hand held punch used to this day.
The first punches patented each featured spring action handles as well as a container for holding chads as they were punched. Not much has changed in the design from those early days to now.
While train travel has greatly diminished, and conductor's do not often punch the ticket today, my experience at least with AmTrack has been that the tickets are NCR paper multiple sheets which the conductor views, removes a portion and hands the balance back to the passenger, the single hole punch continues popular.
Frequently used for the purpose of preparing paper sheets for storing in a binder or folder, or for showing a void in a bus ticket, providing a reward for little learners when used to create a star shaped hole on an incentive chart, homework page, journal entry and the like; the hole punch is an implement often utilized in offices, restaurants, classrooms and elsewhere.
A regular feature found for hole punches whether the device create single or multiple holes is the lever action used to thrust the bladed drum through one or more sheets of paper for creating of the holes. In general; the upright pass through distance of the bladed cylinder measures little more than a short expanse meaning the device can be positioned within a centimeter at the lever hinge.
The spring mechanism has been a problem in the last several one hole punches that I have had for classroom usage. During usage the spring device has been coming out of the handles rendering the device usable, albeit tedious during usage. Opening and closing the punch handles each time a star is to be generated has proven to be frustrating. I am hoping the cushioned grips utilized by McGill Star Hole Punch will help keep the spring mechanism in place along with providing ease of usage for my hands and I am happy to say that after many months of usage; so far, so good.
Pretty universal for the family of hole punches is the design for the apparatus whether the punch generates a single or multiple hole; the hole punch mechanism relies on lever action to ram a bladed drum through one or more sheets of paper.
I find the 2 inch throat which places the hole 2 inches from the edge of the paper to be a good size for my use; should need dictate I can simply move the PunchlineTM StarShape paper punch device away from or closer to the edge as desired.
The protected, trouble-free chad holder keeps bits of paper off the floor, the receptacle covering is uncomplicated to open for chad removal. Osage County First Grade waits with breath held and eyes bright to see which table or student is going to receive the cluster of stars THIS time.
McGill Corporation's Star Shape, Punchline Hole Punch can be used for crafting confetti, or other materials using paper including card stock, slight metals, plastics and craft foam as well as other craft type materials.
Happy to recommend McGill Corporation's 15 Sheet Capacity, ¼ inch 2 inch Reach 1 Hole PunchlineTM Star Shape paper punch.
