Pros: nicely flavoured tea

The Bottom Line: I would not recommend this product on the basis of price and over packaging.

| gardengnome's Full Review: Melitta 18 Ct. Teapods Shades of Jade Single Serve... |
Cooper's Shades of Jade Tea is a 100% natural green tea with hints of lemon and licorice root blended for sweetness and flavour. The teapods are designed for use in the single cup pod Melitta One:One Pod Brewing System.
Packaging: The 18 individually wrapped pods are packaged in an attractivly designed, light weight cardboard box. The background colour of the box is jade green. The top banner is about a quarter of the height of the box. It consists of one:one with the 'one:' in large white font and the following "one" in green font. The middle banner is also about a quarter the height of the box ending at the middle of the box. It has a black background. There is a picture of what is assumed to be Master Tea Blender Barry P. W. Cooper. Beside the picture there are two lines of text. The larger top line reads "Cooper's" in yellow. The smaller bottom line written in white reads "teapods". The bottom half of the box depicts a cup of tea looking down on it with a few tea leaves in green. Just under the middle banner written in black are the words "shades of jade"
To use: Remove an individually packaged teapod from the box. Fill the resevoir in the pod brewing system. Open the pod package and place the pod into the pod holder. Shut the lid and press the brew button. When brewing is finished remove your cup of tea and enjoy!
Price: The teapods retail for $4.99 US but I've seen them as high as $6.99 CDN.
My Comments: The teapods are very easy to use to make a quick cup of tea. Brewing tea this way does not give it the depth of flavour that steeping does. Despite this Shade of Jade Tea does have a lovely flavour.
At the lower price each pod costs 28¢ compared to brand name green tea bags that are 80 for $4.99 CDN or 6¢ per bag. However, even though the teapods are more expensive they are still considerably cheaper than a cup of tea bought from a doughnut shop at $1.25 per cup or more. Each teapod makes only one cup of tea instead of the two cups a regular tea bag makes so in comparison they are quite costly. While these teapods are designed for the Melitta Pod Brewing System, you can use them the same way you would a regular tea bag to get more depth to the flavour.
I do not care for the individual wrapped teapods myself. I view this as unecessary over packaging. However, the packaging is in line with some tea brands currently on the market and the packaging is no more than theirs. Individually wrapped teapods are not really necessary for daily home use as the pods could simply be put in a canister. Many of the leading brands do not package their tea bags individually so the teapods could be packaged much the same way saving all that extra packaging.
The biggest problem I've had with both teapods and coffee pods is availability. The only local store selling these took the pods off their shelf about a year ago. I've been left with the choice of buying online or waiting until we are shopping in the US.
The bottom line: I liked the flavour of Shades of Jade but did not feel it was worth the extra price. I did not like the over packaging.
