Cindy is right. Your piece and your readers would benefit from more detail.

But what is here is good. I especially like your observation about the recent habit of making historical characters behave like contemporary ones. Well done.

This was very well-written, but I think that adding more details about the book would be useful. If you add a short plot synopsis or perhaps discuss the main characters, this will make your review much stronger. As it is now, only those who have read this will really understand your review.

I'll check back later to see if you've edited this, and I'll be happy to change my rating then.

On the tendency of modern portrayals of historical characters -- while it's no doubt tempting to assign currently popular characteristics to historical figures, it's a far more difficult and challenging thing to explore motives that are in synch with the tenor of the times.

Good review.
