| gaelkm's Full Review: Men's Black and White Jail Costume Prisoner Inmate... |
Before you know it, all kinds of ghosts, goblins and other scary things will be appearing on Halloween. I guess I'm a big kid at heart because each year I dress up for Halloween at work, along with my co-workers (we're a fun group!). (Last year I was a "nun" who smoked. Oh well, no one's perfect, right?)
Well, this year I have my outfit planned perfectly and I'm actually early too. Usually, I'm trying to pull together something to wear at the last minute. I normally run out to thrift stores, or get something out of box of Halloween decorations and goodies. But talk about 'scary' costumes...I'm planning to be a big time criminal this Halloween wearing a 'vintage' (old-fashioned?) black and white jail-bird costume. This is the type of jailhouse outfit that crooks and convicts used to wear back in the old days to identify them. (These days they are given bright orange jumpsuits.) No one else wears an outfit like this except real hardened criminals. It's the ones you may have seen in old movies with wide black and white horizontal striping on the shirt and the pants with a skull cap hat to match. With this costume, they've even included a paste-on jail ID number. This is to be my own personal jailbird number pasted right in the middle on the front of the shirt. You can run, but you definitely cannot hide, in an outfit like this one. :)
This particular costume is very light weight, which is good, because of the unpredictable Halloween weather. It can often be on the warm side for us here in California. I prefer my costumes to be comfortable and this one definitely is. I plan to wear something lightweight underneath it, such as a T-shirt and shorts, should it turn out to be a cooler day. Also, want to wear something underneath because the cloth on the jailhouse suit is pretty thin. It seems to be some type of light nylon fabric. It also doesn't need ironing at all.
The cloth is thin and, as I said, lightweight, which can be good and bad. If it turns out to be a hot day, that will be fine, but if it's chilly, my clothes underneath will serve me well. It also fits loosely, which is a good feature. The sizing states that it will fit 'most'. It is made for men, but will work for female criminals too. :))
The waistband of the pants is elastic and there are essentially no hems to worry about either. The top is also loose, so will fit just about anyone. The top goes over your head and has a little tie at the back of the neck. The cap's stripes go one direction around the band and another direction on the top, so they contrast, which looks authentic.
I might even make a lightweight ball and chain to go around my ankle as the perfect accessory to my ensemble. Should be lots of fun. I could even smoke my fake cigarette that I used last year...I can't wait.
This costume costs about $16.00 and can be purchased various places, including online.
