| cityscapex5's Full Review: Miele S544 Artico Bagged Canister Vacuum |
Im not an appliance snob - ive had vacuums that i thought were good enough for years but when i moved into a house in the mountains i noticed that there was a lot of dirt coming in thru the windows and settling on the carpet and furniture. Also there was a lot more Berber carpeting than i had before - almost 2000 square feet. Well keeping the windows closed wasnt really an option so i began to investigate a "better" vacuum cleaner. I was also concerned about allergies as my old vacuum spit out a lot of dust and the supposed filter was what looked like a piece of foam. Well i jumped on the internet and i had no idea there were so many high end vacuums out there. I read the reviews and searched for information and found out about Miele, Sebo, Nilfisk, Oxygen, etc. Miele seemed to be the high end with Sebo so i went down to the local vaccuum and sewing store (does Vacuuming and Sewing have some sort of symbiotic relatonship?) and checked them out. The salesman seemed really interested in selling the Sebo and was somewhat dismissive of the Miele as being more "style over substance". The Sebo upright and canister seemed like excellent machines and they were priced below the Miele. All the information i could find indicated that the Sebo was every good or better than Miele if not as well known or stylish. Having got the vacuum bug - i still wanted to keep looking - i researched the Miele's and i was initially confused by the many different models they offered - Turbo brush, Combo brush , Electrified brush ... since i had only low nap Beber carpeting i figured the Turbo head was appropriate but i had some concerns that somehow the turbo brush would be less powerful than the electric. In choosing between the Sebo and the Miele i decided on the Miele since there were so many satisfied users and it would be easier getting parts and supplies - im sure you couldnt go wrong with either. I decided on the highest model of the S500 line - the Artico - which came with a Turbo Brush. It has a great rubberlike finish and cool blue color. Also the electric controls and some other features for only a little more than the Solaris Turbo seemed like a better deal - if your going to spend this much on a vacuum a little more won't matter. I ended up purchasing from Best Vaccum (great store- great people!). As promised the machine arrived neatly packed a day later. I immediately assembled it which took all of 5 minutes - i read the (brief) manual cover to cover just to be sure i was putting everything together right but everything just snapped into place - no problems whatsoever. I immediately set the control on auto on began vacuuming - first observation - after having only uprights a canister was a revelation! it was so easy to use and manueverable - the brush was much easier to get around furniture and under beds. I was immediately impressed with how easy the electronic controls were to use - just hit the " " and "-_ to increase or decreas suction - and boy is this thing strong!! i had to turn down the suction becuase i thought it was going to pull up the carpeting. Miele seems to have thought of everything - there's a handy park feature which turns the machine off and then back on when you un-park it if you have to answer the phone or move some furniture. The power cord winds and unwinds automatically and can be locked into place. I was actually dissapointed when i ran out of carpet to vacuum! So overall i really love this machine and have not been dissapointed in any way - the artico is also beatiful to look at even sitting in my closet! I'm wondering if I was just ending up pushing dirt around and then having it put back into the air with my old vacuum - i can feel the exhaust air of the Miele when im vacuuming and i have no hesitation breathing as it has almost zero emissions (with the optional Hepa Filter - should be standard Miele).
