cboyce3's Full Review: DeLorme Earthmate Car GPS Receiver
I tested this software to go from our house to a high school on the other side of town, a trip of about 10 miles. The program picked the shortest route which has many traffic lights. I tried to use the "via" points to force the route on the interstate which is, in fact quicker. While I could get the program to display part of the freeway route, it would exit the interstate early, go by back roads back to the remainder of the original thru-city route. When I used a 7th or 8th via point on the ramp for the exit 1/2 mile from the high school, the route displayed continuing on the interstate and extra 5 miles, doing a U-turn and coming back to the exit for the high school. At this point the program was recommending a trip over 37 miles.
In a second, simpler experiment, the program ended at the desired location, but the only problem is that I was on the wrong side of a divided highway. I had to use 4 via points to get it to take me to the next exit, about 1/2 mile away, to allow me to re-enter the highway in the northbound lane where I could get to the final destination
