| Freak369's Full Review: Neopets Soft Cover Binder with Folder Set |
Neopets has a stronghold in the world of online role playing; while it isnt taken seriously by the hard core gamers it is hard to deny that the site has made its mark. With the inclusion of things like the NeoCash Cards that are sold at Target and the plushies that Limited II and Justice carry, you literally can't turn around without bumping into something NeoRelated. When I came across the binder and folder set at K-Mart I raised an eyebrow and wondered what the price was. As usual there were no shelf tags for it and our dinky store doesn't have price scanners. Customer service checked it and said it was on clearance for two dollars. I'd already made up my mind that if it was less than five bucks I was going to by it so hearing that it was only two dollars sealed the deal.
Neopets Soft Binder And Folder Set
This is a standard sized soft plastic binder with a silk screened Neopet themed image on the front. There are five different binder sets to collect and inside the binder there is a color sheet showing the other four designs; I ended up with the orange Grundo from the Warehouse. Very fitting since I used to have a Grundo that I adopted at the website [flame6262] that has since been zapped by the Lab Ray and is now a Desert Kiko. The binder has a three ring spine so you can use this for loose leaf papers or you can purchase an inexpensive three hole punch and keep anything that you like inside the binder. The binder is thick enough that you can have the folder in it as well as a single subject notebook and still have room for a few more sheets of paper.
The folder that comes with the binder can be used in or outside of it; it is strong enough that it can be carried around without the binder and each pocket will hold about twenty to thirty sheets of loose leaf paper. The binders and folders are randomly assembled so just because I got a Scorchio folder with the Grundo binder doesnt mean that all the others will be sold like that. The folder has holes along the side so that it can be placed inside the binder but even if you use it outside the binder, the holes don't cause any problems or catch papers on them. The artwork is really nice and the covers of the folders are glossy with a thick coating to help keep them from splitting or ripping. They aren't indestructible but they will hold up to a lot of use.
The Grundo design is nice; it is an orange Grundo shown bouncing around on the surface of a planet and trying to get away from Gargarox Isafuhlarg. The other designs include a Disco Aisha dancing under a disco ball, a Warf hopping up the side of a tree [from the game Warf Rescue Team], a whole slew of Meepits and their huge creepy eyes looking out at you from a Halloween scene and a desert scene with an Anubis, Kacheek, Grarrl and Scorchio. I really wish I could find the Halloween one because I think Meepits are cute and of course I am a sucker for anything that is Halloween related.
As far as the other folder designs, well, parts of them are shown on the color insert inside the binder but you can't see the complete image so that's a bust. Since this is a retired item there's almost no information about them on the internet or at the Neopet website. They only show one style binder and folder so the other four sets are lost in cyber space. There are a few websites that sell retired Neopet items but they are not cheap and you can never be guaranteed that you are going to get the exact item that you want. As much as I hate my local K-Mart stores, they are the ones that usually have things at a reduced price or on clearance.
When this was being sold it was in the five to six dollar price range; a little high for a plastic binder and paper folder but it carries the Neopet name and characters so you are paying for all that goes along with it. I got the set for two dollars so I can't complain. Right now the binder is being used to store cards from the Neopet TCG game' there are fifteen filled plastic card protector sheets in the binder and there's still room for a few more.
The Bottom Line
If you are a Neopet fan and want something to store your NeoItems in, this is a nice thing to look for. I really think that Neopets started out with a great merchandise line and then expanded it too quickly when they say the initial sales on things. That backfired on them and instead of selling out of things, stuff like this got shoved on some back shelf to collect dust. While I would love to be able to get my hands on all five of the designs, its too late in the game to start looking for them in retail stores. It was a total stroke of luck that I found this at K-Mart; you do have to do a lot of hunting and digging to find things like this but when you do hit pay dirt, its all worth it.
As always, thanks for the visit
