Pros: Easy to install, fast and secure
Cons: Apparently some laptops not so compliant. Check it out.
The Bottom Line: This is potentially a very fast adapter card. Great technology that gives results. Average kind of price for a great product. Best run with Netgear routers.

| redoncrim's Full Review: NetGear WG511T 802.11g/b Wireless Adapter |
My old Netgear 54 Mbps wireless card broke recently after 18 months of constant use. Because it had never given me any problems I decided to stick with Netgear and went for the upgraded WG511T at 108Mbps. I have a D Link G604T wireless router which is only capable of 54Mbps but am due to upgrade so it made sense to get this card.
It has Super G technology and has new antenna technology which sounds impressive. It needs a Cardbus Type II bus slot and is compliant with 802.11b and 802.11g networks. With full WEP and WPA security encryption it is all you need for a safe and fast wireless network connection. With a netgear router and Super G I am told it can reach over 200ft for a stable connection. Don't forget I am using it with a D Link and I aim to go for a Netgear router when upgrading for full Super G access.
I was getting 36Mbps regularly on my old Netgear 54Mbps card. I do now get the full 54Mbps with the WG511T and thats at the end of a 60ft garden!
Taking it out of the box I noticed once again how sturdy and chunky these Netgear cards are.Nice silver colour antenna end when plugged in which is a cosmetic plus if you have a silver laptop. The cd software with drivers and configuration utility should be run first. You follow the prompts and it will be obvious when to insert the card. The card once inserted felt very safe and I am sure there has been an improvement on the older cards there.Easy. No problems.
The configuration utility will run in your toolbar, showing red for not connected and green for connected. It can be pulled up easily to check for any nearby networks. The utility has a very simple and easy to understand layout.
My network with the old card only had WEP encryption so I started with that. It picked it up effortlessly. You do have the option to save a profile and can have several so you dont need to keep changing encryption settings if you move around regularly.Just change the profile.
I went straight to the Netgear site and made sure firmware and drivers were fully up to date.
I got a bit bolder and set the D link up with WPA encryption and lo and behold again absolutely no problems with the WG511T. Connection straight away at 54Mbps. I was also able to see the mac addresses in the utility of three nearby unsecured networks and promptly blocked those too through my router.
I am very very pleased with the simplicity, speed and reliability of this card. My surfing has improved in speed. Downloads are quicker It has not dropped a connection once in three months. I have read elsewhere that some laptops don't like it so if you are really in doubt check that out through google. I have a Fujitsu Siemens laptop. Once I upgrade to a Netgear Super G router I am sure I will see the full benefit of this card.
Check out your laptop and any potential compliancy problems first then go buy. You wont be disappointed.
