| chrisceb's Full Review: Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash |
I never had acne as a teenager. It wasnt till I went to college that I had my first breakout, and to this day, I dont have wonderfully clear skin. I usually always have a blemish or two on my face at all times. It wasnt till I was pregnant with my daughter that I actually had impeccable skin. After the first six weeks of pregnancy, I had unbelievably clear skin.
That, unfortunately, has all changed. I stopped using Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash while pregnant and just started using it again㐂 months post partum. I couldnt figure out why my face was not pimple-free and finally remembered I used Nuetrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash prior to pregnancy. After I had my daughter, and my skin went back to normal (blemishes), I began using Cliniques 3 Step Cleaning System. The soap, toner and moisturizer wasn't cutting it. My face was not getting clean and I was getting more and more clogged pores and pimples.
I finally got my act together and picked up the liquid pump at Wal-Mart.
The product:
The soap is your typical Neutrogena orange in color
it looks like many of the anti-bacterial
Orange soaps on the market. Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash claims to be alcohol-free and medicated. I guess they consider the 2% Salicylic Acid the medication. Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne wash also says it:
penetrates deep into pores to help eliminate most acne blemishes and keep pores clog-free. It effectively removes excess oil
soothe and condition skin to help prevent irritation.
Directions:
I actually use it in place of my Clinique soap in my 3-Step Cleaning process. So first I use my 7-Day Scrub, then follow up with the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash. It says to use twice a day, but I think is I did that, my skin would fall off. So I use it only once a day, before bed. The bottle also says to apply to hands, add water and work into a lather. I have never, ever been able to work this stuff into a lather. I really dont even get bubbles. I just add a little water into my hand, rub it around and then apply it to my face. I quickly wash it off as I think the Acne Wash is a tad on the harsh side. By the time I use my 7-Day Scrub and then follow up with this Acne Wash, my skin is ready for a break. I usually get a slight, but not uncomfortable, burning sensation after I wash off the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash. Which to me, says it is working. I follow up with Clinique Toning Lotion and Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion.
My experience:
I like Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash. I can see that it does dry out the pimples I have left and its also keeping me from acquiring more of those nasty red bumps. I have a tendency to have patches of dry skin on my face. Mostly my nose. But I have found this wash doesnt contribute to the dryness. I see no difference in the texture or appearance of my face, other than it feels cleaner, and I have fewer pimples. I also have had no problem including this wash into my Clinique regime. It works just fine with other brands, and other products. Since I have been using Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash, I get much less grime on my cotton ball when I use my Clinique Toner. When I used the Clinique soap, I still had a good bit of make-up, oil and dirt on the cotton ball. Not with Neutrogena. My cotton balls come away from my face almost completely clean.
Conclusion:
I am glad I finally remembered my cleaning friend, as I was getting quite frustrated with my cleaning regime. Adding a little acne controller to my routine has really helped my face become cleaner and have fewer blemishes. If you have a slight problem with pimples and blemishes you might give it a try. For $4.50, it is worth a try.
