| davidjwest's Full Review: Newcastle Brown Ale England 18.6oz |
Coming from a small country across the water I am very used to this drink. It originates from the 'city' (population about 250,000) of Newcastle, in the North East of England and is a favourite amongst students here.
Partly because it represents good value for money, but mainly I suspect as it will quickly render the recipient incapacitated. Two or three of these and you are well on your way to insobriety, many more and the technicolour yawn will be upon you - at least that's what I find!
Seriously though, I am not really an alcoholic, but I do enjoy drinking this, unlike almost all other types of ale.
I find the colour a little off-putting, it makes me think that the water the use comes straight from thew polluted river Tyne which flows throught the fair city of Newcastle. It probably does, but at least they could filter it! It is a very rich dark brown colour if you didn't know, the River Tyne and this liquid.
It is very flat for an ale, which is good as far as I am concerned, if I want bubbles I will drink a coke.
The taste though is what I find most appealing, it is quite a clear and almost sweet taste. None of that bitter aftertaste with the holy water from Geordie land (Geordie's are the people from Newcastle, the speak their own language which the other English people cannae understand!)
Overall I would recommend trying this to anyone, but make sure you take it easy, especially on your first try!
