Newcastle Brown Ale is my favorite dark beer. While not entirely dark and bitter like a Beck's or heavy like a Guinness, Newcastle provides a great balance for those who are sick of the mass produced Millers and Buds, but appreciate the taste of an full bodied beer. It comes in a clear bottle through whch you can appreciate the color of this world class beer.
Newcastle has a slightly bitter taste that is enhanced as the beer gets warmer. If you prefer this bitterness, let your beer sit out of the refrigerator for a little while before drinking. For those who do not like this bitterness like me, drink this beer cold right out of the fridge.
The best part of the flavor of Newcastle Brown Ale comes out in it's rich taste of brown sugar accompanied by the subtle hint of a nutty flavor. Drinking this beer with a bowl of peanuts at home or all your local pub, will undoubtedly enhance this nutty flavor.
The price of Newcastle is average in comparison to other specialty beers like it. It average around $7 a 6 pack, but often can be purchased for $5-6 when on sale.
I prefer Newcastle out of the bottle rather than out of the tap. Newcastle does not come in cans. For some reason, like with other specialty beers, something is lost in the flavor of the beer when it comes out of the tap. The beer is often flatter and many times much more bitter.
Newcastle Brown Ale brings the best of native English pubs brews right to your home or local bar. For about a $1.50 per bottle, you can save the expense of flying over to England to experience this great tasting beer.
