girlsgotpipes's Full Review: Nicole by Opi Nics Sticks Red Eye to NY .135 oz.
I saw this product in my pharmacy and immediately saw the benefit of having nail polish in pen form. The packaging didn't have much in the way of detail about it's use, but I thought how hard could it be? There were at least 20 colours available from conservative neutrals pinks and reds to deep purple, baby blue and green.
When I got it home I was immediately disappointed by the brush. It is round and thick and shaped more like a Q-Tip end than the more precise flat brush normally found in nail polish bottles. (I was hoping since it appeared to be a pen, that it might be more like a felt tip, but with the thickness of the polish I suppose that's not possible).
The directions tell you to pump up and down on the bottom to get the polish into the brush (the cylinder of the stick is a transluscent plastic tube in an outer opaque plastic sleeve. You press on the tube sort of like a click pen). The polish fully filled the brush after 4 or 5 pumps and after that it only took 2 or 3 to replenish it when the polish in the brush became exhausted during application.
The polish itself was nothing new. It was about like most standard polishes as far as coverage. It's by no means a one coat deal, though it did dry a bit faster than regular polish. But that thick brush made it impossible to accurately apply polish along the sides and base of the nail without getting it all over my skin.
Also during application I had to figure out how to pump down more polish with wet nails without ruining them. I wound up using a pencil to do it which was awkward, but better than trying to do it with my finger.
When I was done, my nails and fingers were a mess and I wound up removing the polish altogether and tossing the stick in the trash...it was almost empty anyway after two coats. I was surprised though at how easily the polish came off even after it had completely dried. Makes me wonder how durable it could have been had I kept it on. This colour, Red Eye to NY, stained my nails just like any other red polish and the stains had to be buffed off with a fine emery board after the removal of the polish to make them presentable again.
My impression is that this polish is intended for single use and at an average manufacturer's retail of 11 dollars...it's a lousy value for one application and still would be for 10 applications. I paid 7 at my local pharmacy and it still wasn't worth it.
