Pros: Best bang for your buxs!!! Unbalivable price.
Cons: None. They did it all right.
The Bottom Line: If everyone knew about this, Sony and everyone else wouldn't sell any theater in a box systems. They don't even compare in quality. They arn't even in the same class.

| wsandman's Full Review: Onkyo HT-S650 Theater System |
I picked this system out for my folks. However, I had the challange of finding a good system without costing alot of money. Till Onkyo made this little package, this task was impossible.
To compare with what I know: I have been a audio freak since I was 15. I have a costly system with a top end Yamaha Dolby Digital amp and high end Infinity Studio Monitor speakers.
The Onkyo system is a entry level high end system. This is the real thing and everyone should buy one before Onkyo gets a clue and sells it for $1,500. Why they are selling it so cheap is beyond me. This is great for anyone who wants really good sound without breaking the bank.
Don't even bother with Sony, or Pioneer, or any other theater in a box. They sound cheap and they cost almost or as much as the Onkyo. In fact I think it sounds better then Bose and thats a very bold statment. Bose has a crisper sound, but I think they lack mid range. Bose has a big name and a big price. I think they are falling behind in current technology and sound. The onkyo is a great balanced system. There is a full sound from the highs to the lows. Nothing is missing. You would have to spends thousands to get a higher quality sound. You would have to buy a $500 amp matted to a very costly speaker package to do better. Brands like Paradigm and = costly brand names.
Unless you have at least a $2500 budget to go home theater shopping, I'd suggest anyone who wants really really nice sound to get this Onkyo system because it is the deal of the centry in home theater sound.
The only scary problem is the sound level is rated between 0 and 100. You don't hear anything untill you get to 40. I wish they would have made this clear. I spent alot of extra time checking my setup when I got it right the first time.
I recomend buying better speaker wire. The included speaker wire in thin and cheap. Also it comes with decent lenths speaker wire, but they might not be long enough for your setup. You can improve your sound with better wire. No need to buy Mon$ter cable. Menards sells decent stuff for much lower cost. Also, replace the cheap RCA cable for the sub for improved sound.
Also the remote is kinda small for my tast with tiny buttons. This system is nice enough to go buy a fully prograble remote that is backlit.
