Excellent Receiver with tried and true Onkyo quality components

I purchased this receiver from C.C. in August of '02 so I have had it for about 10 months now. And I must say I am VERY pleased with my purchase.
Onkyo is known for quality audio products but I would expect to pay almost twice what I paid for the product (paid $399). Even the remote is great on this thing--I used to have 5 remotes to use between the vcr, dvd, tv, receiver, cd, just to name a few. Now I have only one. But that is just the beginning. The clean quality of the watts delivered to my Polk speaker system (infinity sub though) is amazing. I personally like the exterior look, the easy to operate on-screen display for setting up all your audio options, and the simple rear layout for plugging everything in.
I am so pleased with my Onkyo receiver that I bought an Onkyo dvd/cd progressive scan 5 disc carousel to match. At first I thought that 80 watts per channel might not bring enough juice to my system, being that I like to have the option to turn things up really loud if the situation needs it (movie sound or cd). Boy was I wrong; the difference is how good of quality the watts are that Onkyo delivers (so clean and true). While there are only a few dvds out that offer 6.1 sound, who knows about the future. It delivers the same high quality sound for all your 5.1 dvds of course.
Bottom line? FANTASTIC quality, simple set up with a quick browse of the manual, awesome and more importantly clean power, great remote that takes the place of all your previous ones, distinguished exterior (aluminum face plate), oversized internal components (also a plus), ... I could go on and on. And the previous review stated it had poor center channel 'vocal' performance. I couldn't disagree more. When I play anything on surround sound modes, especially dvds, the center channel rocks -- clean words, very deep and cleanly delivered vocals and sound effects, and plays plenty loud. I know that Kenwood and Sony claim '500 or 600' watts in their $300 dts/dolby digital receivers but they are 'rough watts' so to speak. 600 total Sony or Kenwood watts is comparable to 250+- Onkyo watts at best. So spend the extra 100 or so dollars and step up to an Onkyo receiver that you wont be sorry to have years down the line.
