If you can stand the annoying buzz of bungled "operations", you will find that kids can play happily together with this toy. They often end up laughing together as the game progresses. My children do not play this game too often (which helps my frazzled nerves), but they do not seem to bored by it in any way. The funny names that the bones are given (like funny bone, adam's apple, something about a bucket, butterflies in the stomach, etc.) continue to give my daughter the giggles. I do not recommend this toy for children with small families in that there are a few small parts that, if lost, would render the game unable to play, and if swallowed could be rather uncomfortable.
This truly is a classic, and can be enjoyed by young (but not too young for reasons mentioned above) and old (but not too old if they have sight problems or arthritis) alike. It would make a great gift for a birthday, too, if you do not this the annoying buzzer would end a friendship.
I have a friend who disliked the buzz so much that she disabled it somehow, so that the nose of the "patient" still lights up when a mistake is made, but it no longer buzzes. The game is not as much fun this way, but the children still get to keep a sane mom and their game.
Overall, I would recommend this game with the caveat that you should know what you are getting. Most kids have or will play this game at some point in their lives. Whether it is at their own home depends on the buzzer and the sanity of the parents.
