Pros: A nice alternative to the traditional peppermint candy canes.
Cons: Only three flavors offered. Trying to decipher coloring with the flavor. Messy.
The Bottom Line: If you want to try something different, go ahead and give these a try.

| Chris_Billings's Full Review: Oriental Trading Company Wonka SweeTARTS Candy Can... |
A couple years ago I was browsing at a local Toys R Us store when I came across the Wonka® SweeTarts® Candy Candy Canes. It had been a long time since I put candy canes on my Christmas tree and thought that these would be a nice alternative to the usual peppermint candy canes I used to decorate with. A pack of 12 candy canes is approximately $3.99 and comes in three different flavors; Green Apple, Blue Punch and Cherry (four of each in each pack). Each candy cane measures approximately 6 inches and has multiple bands of color on each. The bands of color do not match what the flavor is, so sometimes when you are in a mood for a cherry you actually get a green apple. For a few years it's been this way except last year the colors matched a little better. The Blue Punch flavored canes featured a mostly blue color scheme with yellow and red. The Apple had mostly green with a little yellow, etc. But this year I am not sure what the color scheme will be. I am not really sure there is a standard. All I know it that the same three flavors are always used every year, which is kind of disappointing. Especially since there are Starburst® Candy Canes released every Christmas season too, except those are two-toned instead of multi-colored and I kind of like the rainbow look. The candy canes are quite tart and the Green Apple can be sour at times. The Blue Punch actually tastes a little like Raspberry and is my least favorite. The candy canes are a Fat Free snack but one needs to watch out for the carbohydrates since the majority of it is made up of sugar and corn syrup. If you thought a normal candy cane was messy with the red coloring you are in for a "treat". These candy canes are extremely sticky and messy when they get a little warm and if you plan on eating them your mouth will be covered in all sorts of colors. When the colors blend together it almost looks black. The coloring does not wash off that easy. The candy canes are a nice change from time to time. I enjoy the rainbow of colors as well as the alternative flavorings. I get overwhelmed with all the peppermint, wintergreen, and spearmint flavorings/scents at Christmas time so these are a lifesaver. These multi-colored candy canes also look great on a tree that has monotone schemed Christmas tree. It adds a little bit of a punch of color without going overboard. The candy canes look classy when displayed this way. You can pretty much pick up these candy canes at any grocery store and they run about the same wherever you go. I think that Wal-Mart sells these for a few cents less than everywhere else though. I don't think that fruit flavored candy canes will ever replace the traditional peppermint ones anytime soon, but they are a nice change from time to time. _________________________ [PRODUCT] Wonka® SweeTARTS® Candy Canes (12 Pack) [MANUFACTURER] Nestle (Product of USA) [TYPE] Candy/Snack [YEAR] n/a [COMPANY WEBSITE] www.wonka.com _________________________ [NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION]** Serving Size 1 Candy Cane (.5oz) Servings per Pack 12 Calories 70 Calories from Fat 0 Total Fat 0g Saturated Fat 0g Trans Fat 0g Cholesterol less than 5mg Sodium 5mg Total Carbohydrate 18g Dietary Fiber 0g Sugars 15g Protein 0g **based on a 2,000 calorie diet Vitamin A 0%* Vitamin C 0%* Calcium 0%* Iron 0%* *not a significant source INGREDIENTS Sugar | Corn Syrup | Malic Acid | Sodium Lactate (less than 2%) | Natural & Artificial Flavors | Blue 1 | Red 40 | Yellow 5 _________________________ © COPYRIGHT 2009 Chris Billings *This review is part of the 12 "Ornaments" of Christmas Write-Off hosted by W.L.
