Scaly dry lips don't look good in lipstick. You just can't dress up neglected lips. (Personally, I think that's one of the reasons why fish haven't got themselves wrapped up in the whole lipstick and gloss craze.)
I don't like the look of dressed up lips that aren't smooth and lush. For me, it's like Why Bother?! The kissable and delectable pucker should be smooth and only enhanced by the lipstick or gloss, it shouldn't display or highlight a virtual terrain of neglected lips.
That's why I *LOVE* Origins Lip Remedy. I'd tried a multitude of balms and lip ointments only to find that they were moisturized by the balm, but the overall condition and texture of my lips not visibly improved. It was a temporary fix for me. I still adore my Burt's Bees Lip Balm and my Philosophy Kiss Me (in Red) but to prep and protect the kissability factor of my puss I trust Origins Lip Remedy.
Origins Lip Remedy according to Origins.com is "Nature's chap-fighters and lip savers, including Menthol and Camphor sink right in to soothe, comfort and desensitize cracked, dry lips. For all skin types." The tag line from Origins is to "Kiss dry lips goodbye."
The ingredient listing is hefty, and with the active ingredients being Menthol and Camphor, make sure your lips and you like these two ingredients. You can feel coolness and tingling of these two powerful ingredients. I don't mind it at all and have experienced no breakouts, side effects or stinging from continued use. Any tingling is purely temporary lasting only a matter of seconds.
The Origins.com site does not list all ingredients. I found this information on the box that held the product. My only caution is to make sure you can handle jojoba, shea butter, and wintergreen. I have heard from other beauty enthusiasts that these products can sometimes cause allergic reactions for some wearers. I am not in that group.
The .17 fl. oz./5 ml product is $11.00 and comes in a sleek and slim white tube with a screw off applicator wand that seems to dispense the right amount of product for one quick swipe. The product itself is a creamy white smooth potion. Don't use too much - it tends to settle into small lines and areas on the lips and the outer lip area. I do find the one swipe rule works well for my normally sized lips. The box of the product offers that this product can be used as needed: "Sweep on lips as often as needed. Wise Measures: Apply only to lip area". (Sidenote: I can't imagine where else one would apply this!)
"HOW TO USE: Apply alone or prior to lip color. Leaves no greasy feel to interfere with the application or appearance of lipstick or lip gloss." (Directions from Origins)
That's pretty much how I use it. At night I slather my lips in it. (I also dab a bit on my honey's lips...the first time I did that he was a bit freaked out by the applicator but he's since gotten over it and used the product on his own in the privacy of my bathroom. I've vowed not to tell the softball team for his sake.)
Some don't care for applicator wands. I don't mind them. If you aren't keen on the wand on your lips, you can dab a bit of the product off the wand onto a CLEAN finger for application that way. This is more of a personal preference.
The true great use of this product is as I'm prepping my face with moisturizer, matte lotion, etc. I put a little on my lips to prep them for a smooth application of lipstick/gloss.
Lip Remedy provides a smooth playing field for great application a little while later. Lipstick/gloss is the last thing I apply in my beauty routine so by that time the product has absorbed nicely into my lips for jagged-free and smooth application of lipsticks and glosses. It doesn't compromise the colors and textures of the lip products either. There's no diluting or weird color noticed after I putting the lip product on top of the Lip Remedy. I'd caution not to put a heavy coat of Lip Remedy on, a little swipe will do you. You want this to absorb nicely into your lips not sit globbed on. It does not feel greasy as Origins claims.
My lips are more supple and softer with continued use of this product. I haven't banished my regular balms either. I like this product to prep lips and for an overnight treatment. It was a wonderful product to have during a Michigan winter too. It sort of reminded me in a far distant way of the Blistex my mom used to smear with wild abandon on my lips as I walked to the bus stop. This potion by Origins is a little posher and more grown up but carries the same sensibilities as that old favorite of many.
You can also wear Lip Remedy alone. Just make sure you've blended the product in completely so no telltale white streaks of the product shows up on your lips. It's not a product that requires a lot of time for application or worry. Once you realize the texture of the product and how much to apply, you'll be all set.
The tube lasts a long time too. Many may shrug at paying $11.00. I've found this product works for me. I figure all the balms I pay 1-3 dollars for add up fast and don't make my lips look any better or feel smoother. I can forget those impulse buys and purchase Lip Remedy again.
I purchased my tube at Gloss.com. This product can also be found at an Origins counter near you as well as Origins.com.
Enjoy smooth, lush lips - with or without lipstick.
