| michiman1's Full Review: Ortho Home Defense Hi-Power Brand Roach, Ant & Spi... |
It's that time of year when a host of uninvited guests find their way into your home and our family has found Ortho Roach, Ant & Spider Killer keeps them away. I must point out the spelling in the above sentence, I did say "ants" not "aunts". This product works well on a wide variety of crawling insects but will do nothing to eliminate unwanted human guests. To get those pests from coming back I suggest filling in the pool and leaving the air conditioning off.
Ortho Roach, Ant & Spider Killer kills ants, cockroaches, spiders(including black widow spiders), carpet beetles, centipedes, crickets, Indian meal moths, rice weevils, grain beetles, scorpions, silverfish sowbugs. In addition the can states it will eliminate my two favorites... cigarette beetles, I've never seen one but I'd love to see how they flick a bic to light up. This product will also kill confused flour beetles, although I have never seen these either, I've already decided that if I do see them I'm not using Ortho's product but I'll simply spill some flour on them and watch them run around in circles and dizzy themselves to death.
Seriously, Ortho Roach, Ant & Spider Killer really does work on nearly any crawling bug that's made it's way into our home. In addition to the list above, I can say it works well on earwigs which are a real problem in our area at times as well as fleas and ticks. This product is advertised to not only kill insects on contact but will continue for 2 weeks with residual contact and activity.
It is suggested you spray Ortho Roach, Ant & Spider Killer along baseboards, window and door frames, beneath sinks, refrigerators and stoves, inside cabinets, and around plumbing and garbage cans. Dark corners of rooms, cracks and crevices and anywhere insects reside or could find their way into your home should be sprayed. The spray emanating from the can is a fine mist as opposed to a wet spray that comes out of many other products on the market. This finer mist avoids puddling and overspraying certain areas, leaving an even coat on the entire surface being treated. This is especially noticeable since Ortho also suggests spraying the outside of window and door frames, as well as screens. We have regularly tried this around our deck doorwall screens and it has seemed to reduce the amount of flies and mosquitoes that find their way in our kitchen and dining areas. You will notice the usual bug spray smell but I have to say it is short lived and somewhat less than some products I've used in the past.
I was about to list the active ingredients in Ortho Roach, Ant & Spider Killer but decided unless a chemist read the list, it meant absolutely nothing. It does suffice to say Ortho does issue the following warnings:
TO SPRAY FOOD STORAGE AREAS: Remove all food and shelving paper before spraying. Discard infested food packages. Spray shelves and in cupboards where infested food containers were stored. Replace food packages after spray has dried. Replace shelving paper.
CAUTION: Harmful if swallowed or absorbed through skin. Avoid contact with eyes, skin or clothing. Prolonged or frequent repeated skin contact may cause allergic reaction in some individuals. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling.
Remove pets, birds, and cover fish aquariums before spraying.
In other words, be extremely careful around food and pets, consider the above cautions, especially when spraying in food storage areas. We would have to have a major infestation before going to these extremes.
I purchased this product in the 15 oz. aerosol can and paid $2.97. In comparison to other products on the market, I find this to be a reasonable price. Ortho does offer consumers a money-back guarantee as stated on their package, If for any reason you are not satisfied with this product, mail us proof of purchase to obtain a full refund of your purchase price. I recommend this product which will do all that is advertised, but please use it as directed and you should no longer have an aunt... er... I mean, ant problem.
