Cons: These pens can be pricey for a student.
The Bottom Line: These can be a little pricier than what a lot of students might want to pay for school pens, but the ease of use makes them very worth it.

| elanivalae's Full Review: PILOT CORPORATION OF Pilot G2 Retractable Gel Ink ... |
I purchased the Pilot G2 Retractable Gel Ink Rollerball initially because I've found that gel rollerball pens flow more smoothly on paper and thus make handwriting less painful for my carpal tunnel. Since I began using the G2 pens, I've not used any other! The comfort of the grip combined with the smoothness of the ink flow makes using them a pleasure.
The G2 comes in a few colors - black, red, green, and blue - but in some stores, only the black will be available. I prefer the black, as it's a universally accepted color for school and job alike, but it's nice to have a color choice for emphasis. Unlike a lot of gel or rollerball pens, these don't sputter, spot, dry up, or leak with any regularity, making them an excellent choice for those who need to write quickly for note-taking or keep impeccably clean records. They write easily, smoothly, and with a nice thick, dark line that doesn't blot if you pause in your writing. Depending on the thickness of your paper, they might bleed through; however, I've only noticed this happening on extremely thin, cheap notebook paper.
Pilot G2s have the added benefit of being sturdy enough to survive months in the miasma of a college student's constantly jostling purse or backpack, and clip securely to a notebook or folder. Many other types of pens I've purchased, from Bic to the more expensive retractable pens, have cracked, leaked, and snapped from heavy use - not so with the G2. Refills are easy to install, relatively inexpensive, come in convenient two-packs, and are easy to find. I've located these pens (usually singly or in two-packs) at the usual office supply stores, but also at Wal-Mart (a boon for the rural reader) and Target.
