Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie''s plot.
First let me say that I love Hilary Swank, Kathy Bates and romantic comedies so I knew that I had to see this movie. I am so happy that I did. Hilary Swank played a wonderful role as Holly Kennedy, married to 10 years to Jerry Kennedy, an irishman she met in Ireland. Together, they have really made no true plans for the future and are stuck in a small apartment with no savings. She doesn't want to have children until they are more stable. Jerry is ready to do anything at anytime. When Jerry dies of a brain tumor, Holly does not think life will go on until she receives a birthday cake with a recorder from Jerry. Jerry sends her a series of letters over the next year in many creative ways urging her to move on with her life. Holly's mother, Patricia - played by Kathy Bates, doesn't approve of the letters and constantly urges Holly to move on. Daniel, Patricia's bar help, played by Harry Connick, Jr. falls in love with Holly and tries to help her through. He has a social disorder which makes him say things before thinking and his character will provide many, many laughs. Lisa Kudrow plays Denise, Holly's best friend who helps her through her grieving period. Denise will give you plenty of laughs as well.
The movie was well written and suspenseful - the ending was a bit of suprise. Though Kathy Bates played an awesome character, her character was serious - I really wanted a little comedy from her. All in all, the movie and the characters were great.
This movie is not suited for children under 13 because of sexual references.
