| ariel10575's Full Review: Pampered Chef Corn Butterer |
Easily, hands down, this is my favorite Pampered Chef product! Ok, yes it is one of the cheapest, but it makes life so much easier in the summer months, that is is my favorite!!
Why is it my favorite? Well, let me take you down memory lane!
All of my life, I have enjoyed eating corn-on-the-cob. But it tastes so much better with butter on it and a bit of salt. Always you would end up losing that piece of butter that was on the knife as you spread it around, and you would have a little puddle of melted butter on the plate under the corn. Ah, oh well, you just cannot do anything about it!
Move ahead to July 1999. After hearing about Pampered Chef for the previous 9 months, I was finally invited to my first kitchen show. I was excited, and so happy to go, even with being 2 months pregnant and in full morning sickness throws 24/7. Thankfully, I was given a comfy chair, and treated to anything I could stomach - especially bubbly drinks as the homeowner, my friend, found them comforting during her pregnancy.
I was so excited by the demonstration; I just new I wanted to hold a party, and even become a consultant. I decided to book a party of my own for a few months after the baby was born. In the meantime, I ordered myself the Food Chopper, and as I perused the catalogue, I stumbled upon this lovely item, the Corn Butterer! As this is not a big money item, it is usually looked over in kitchen shows. The consultant did not even have one with her to show me. No biggie! For the price of $2.75, I was willing to pay and try it myself!
Once I got the thing home, it was smooth sailing over ears of corn. My son, 2 years old at the time, was really getting into eating corn off the cob. This saved me lots of time, as Grandma got him hooked on buttered corn, and allowed me more time away from food as even the smell made my stomach turn. Once I was feeling better, I kept using it, and now it is always in my fridge, ready to use any time!
What is this thing anyway??
(The features list is information Pampered Chef from materials they provided to me in hard copy, not online. All commentary is my own.)
The Corn Butterer is rectangular, and holds about 1/2 a stick of butter or margarine. Here are the features:
Convenient size and easy to use: Yes, it is all of that! It is shaped to just slide in your butter stick, and fits in the palm of your hand, and even toddler hands for them to get in on the action!
Saves Butter: Of course it does! No more losing butter as it melts and drips off of the ear of corn. No more puddles on the plate!
Cover: Just place the cover on, and your butter will stay fresh in the fridge, or when in use on the table, it keeps things from getting in it, or bugs landing on it outside.
Curved Dispensing Area: The curve built into the top of it will fit perfectly on a portion of the ear of corn. You can cover an area about an inch wide. This saves you time also.
Versatile: It is suggested that you can use it to butter the tops of fresh baked bread or to even baste a turkey! Ok, I'm not sure I would try this, but sure, maybe someone will do that!
Dishwasher-Safe: Yep, when the butter is gone, just take this apart - three pieces only - put it in the top rack of the dishwasher, and soon you will have a nice clean Corn Butterer. Just be sure that the two smaller pieces are placed in an enclosed area if you have one. I do so I can fit sippy lids in it, and other small things that can fall through the rack easily. Just be sure to keep this product away from the heating element, ok?
Use and Care Information Card: The fun thing with all Pampered Chef products is the use and care information that comes with every single product. Not only will you learn how to take care of your product, but each card has a recipe on it! Even this one!
Product Dimensions: The Corn Butterer is about 3" in tall and about 1 1/2" wide.
This product was designed and produced exclusively for Pampered Chef, and is made in the USA.
How do I use it?
When you receive your product, please be sure to wash it either by hand with warm, soapy water, or give it a run through the dishwasher.
When you are ready to set it up, place 1/2 a stick of butter (or whatever form of margarine, etc) inside the Corn Butterer. Place the plunger behind it, and push it to advance the butter to the top. Cover with the cap and keep it in your fridge until you are ready to use it.
To use it, just remove the cap, and run the curved dispensing area over the hot ear of corn like you are basting or painting it. Do this on as much of the area that you wish to.
I have found that sometimes the butter is rather hard inside of the product, so I will either set it out to soften before use, or pop it in the microwave for a few seconds to soften a bit. When in use on hot corn, it will soften more, and allow you to advance it with the plunger more.
My Recommendation
If you, your child, your spouse, your mom, your dad, your third cousin Jimmy twice removed, or even your neighbor like hot buttered corn-on-the cob, this is the best product to have for that! It makes life so much easier if you like this, and in my house it gets eaten a lot all year round! This has saved me so much time and trouble, that if I could, I really would buy it for every person I know and then some!
So run to your kitchen consultant, and pick one up today!! You will not regret it, unless you do not like corn, or corn on the cob, or butter...but then you wouldn't be reading this, would you?!!?
