| stacyb's Full Review: Pampered Chef Family Heritage Stoneware Bar Pan 14... |
First of all, I'd like to correct a mistake that I made when writing this article. The pans are not guaranteed a lifetime...only for 3 years. I honestly thought they were guaranteed a lifetime. I spoke with my Pampered Chef consultant yesterday and she confirmed it. I didn't intend to give misleading information. I have had the stones so long (way beyond the 3 year guarantee!) that I had forgotten the warranty info I guess.
I have had my Pampered Chef bar pan forever! I actually have two of the same size. They are the only baking sheets that I use and I use them for almost everything that I bake.
The P.C. bar pans are classic stoneware. When you first purchase one, it is very attractive and light tan in color. As you continue to use, the color gets darker and darker and my most seasoned pan is almost black in color now. That's the way they are supposed to get if they ware well seasoned.
There are several "rules" to follow when using the stoneware. No detergent at all is supposed to be used to clean it. The soap gets into the pores and leaves a soapy residue and consequently a soapy taste when baking afterwards. After the pan cools you are to use the plastic scraper that comes with the pan to scrape off excess crumbs, etc that are left on the pan. It is so easy to clean! Then just rinse with hot water.
Another issue is how hot you can get the pan. It is not to used for broiling. And I learned that the hard way. I didn't read the instructions all the way through the first time I bought one of these and decided to broil some meat on the stone. I was in the kitchen when I heard the crack! I think it was the round stone that I did this with. I then read through the directions and found where you cannot broil anything on it. Needless to say, I was upset because these things cost almost $30 a piece. Little did I know then that Pampered Chef would have replaced the stone if I would have contacted a Consultant. These stones are guaranteed a lifetime.
Besides cookies (which I bake a lot) I used my bar stone for pizza, fish sticks, corn dogs, french fries, and almost everything that I can bake on a flat surface. At times I have used parchment paper to bake cookies on but really there is no need to with the stones. They are really the only baking sheets that I use consistently! I have a Wilton baking sheet but rarely use it...only if I am making several dozen cookies and want to get everything finished in a hurry. The P.C. stoneware is so much better since it heats evenly, bakes things to perfection, and is so easy to clean!
The first batch of cookies that you make will need to bake a few minutes longer than the subsequent ones because the pan is not warmed, unless you would put it into the oven and warm while your oven is preheating. I never do this but I guess it would work. After the first batch, you may not even need to bake them the entire allotted time. The stone stays warm for 20-30 minutes after baking.
I recommend the baking bar stone to all of you "Betty Crockers" who take pride in your baking and like an easy cleanup.
