Pros: Lightweight, 3.5" lcd, audio/video in and out, infrared, zoom mic
Cons: lots to learn
The Bottom Line: The easy audio video in / out feature and the night shot infrared mode, coupled with the 3.5" lcd and lower price makes this a winner.

| panzor5's Full Review: Panasonic PV-DV402 Mini DV Camcorder |
This is a Mini DV digital camcorder that provides the best of all possibilities when looking for a new camcorder it has a 1 CCD system but with 680K pixels provides you with a very crisp clear sharp picture and an 10x Optical Zoom that really works well with no real loss of picture quality at all. There is also a 700x Digital Zoom that works exceptionally well.
The LCD Panel Size is 3.5 in. Which is absolutely great for video yourself and other subjects. The Audio Format is both 12 and 16 Bit PCM Digital Stereo Audio which gives you a multitude of dubbing and sound quality control - great feature for a lower price machine.
This camcorder has a image stabilization system that can stabilize while you are filming and also on playback to remove the jitters. It can also take digital still photographs onto a smart card that allows easy access from your computer. The photos can be taken at 1280 x 960.
There is a Night Shot mode which allows you take pictures using a built in infrared light that really is a great feature for those late night camping trips.
The best feature for me is the Video In / Out Which allowed me to copy all my old analog 8mm film onto the dv digital cartridge in my new camera. Also with the built in firewire and usb ports allow for easy movie transfers.
The battery type is rechargeable Lithium ion which is ok and provides good performance if you take it easy on the included light and other features.
This camcorder only weighs about 1.3 lbs and is surely a usable and fun camcorder.
there is quite a bit to learn when you first get it , but there are on screen menus and a comprehensive manual that comes with it, Over time I have become quite good at using the features and setting up shots. It is good fun and easy to use once you get the learning finished.
hope this helps
