Pros: Excellent picture resolution. HDMI. Cable card slot. Internal tuner. Simple remote and manual.
Cons: No PC input. No digital photo slot.
The Bottom Line: The best plasma HDTV I have seen because of picture resolution, features like HDMI, internal tuner, and cable card slot. It is easy to set up and operate.

| itsjoe's Full Review: Panasonic TH-42PX50U 42 in. HDTV TV |
After over 6 months of researching, reviewing, and observing dozens of high definition TVs of all kinds including DLPs, LCDs, micro rear projections, and plasmas, as soon as I saw this 8th generation Panasonic plasma introduced in March 2005, I laid down my money. I have not been disappointed. Picture clarity even in a lighted room, exceptional colors, crisp black and white, together with awesome handling of analog, digital, and HD sources are some of the reasons I made this choice. The internal tuner together with the cable card slot allowed my cable provider to provide service without a set top box, thus eliminating lots of wires and possible reduction of the picture signal. The HDMI connection further enhanced this as well.
As good as the previous Panasonic model is, this new version gives 33% more shades of gradation and 8 times as many displayable colors, and these improvements can, indeed, be seen. For me, that was the clincher, for when making a purchase like this, it comes down to what you can see.
Movie theaters will get much less of my money now that my home theater with this HD plasma and my Klipsch surround speakers with Yamaha receiver is complete. Old and new DVDs take on new viewing and feeling.
