This particular light casts a noticeable red glow. its just bright enough to see where to put the car or house keys, but doesn't really light up a big area. I have seen this light marketed for safety... meaning other people can see you and not run you over kind of thing. Given the light's small size, it does put out quite a bit of light, but going through the woods or on dark alleys, you really are going to want something better. Added to this is the fact that it is difficult to change the expensive button cell type batteries, and I would say the appeal of this flashlight is limited.
