| lllopez's Full Review: Porter-Cable Round Head Framing Nailer Kit, Model ... |
I recently had to renovate my garage from a flat roof to a pitched one with little more than occasional help from my son who pitched in during frequent visits home. Knowing this I soon realized If I was going to make this job look right, I would have to have tools that were going to move the process along. I then decided to head to purchase the FR 350 and the 4 gallon Porter Cable compressor.(Code requires round head nails in my community)
After looking at the load of wood the lumberyard dropped off I am glad made this choice. After demolition of the old roof and setting new sill plates I was ready to go. The thing you notice immediately about this tool is the ergonomics. It fits comfortable in your hand, and is really balanced and not awkward. Nails are plastic collated 22º variety about $28.00 for 5000 for a 8 penny nail. This tool will accept 2- 3½ inch nail. Loading is simple. Pull back the latch on the magazine, drop you nails in and release, throw in a few drops of the oil (included) in the air valve and..you are ready to go!
There is a depth of drive adjustment, unlike older tools that required you to adjust your air pressure at your compressor, and required a little experimentation. A rubber foot (removable) protects your work in situations where desired.
Once you fire your first nail you realize the awesome power of this tool. It can literally set your nail into your stock, saving setting your nails later. reloading happens approximately 70 nails later, and that time flies. Look at it this way. You take 3-4 swings of a hammer to set one nail...this Porter Cable does it in 1!
You can get a sequential fire trigger free from Porter Cable, as it comes with a bump fire trigger. it operates between 70-120 lbs of pressure on your compressor. it is possible to double fire and drive 2 nails ,until you get the hang if it. I must say this tool did not jam once!
Needless to say, my garage up finished. I did it a whole lot quicker on account of this tool than I would have conventionally. I am just a hobbyist and would not give up my air tools. It will not go everywhere a hammer is used, but I cannot see how a professional can do without this tool. I am, as we speak, adding to my collection of Porter Cable air nailers. This tool comes in with a case, allen wrenches for adjustments, oil, a manual and from what I understand, protective eyewear, although mine did not.
