Kittyokc's Full Review: Pounce Cat Treats Moist Tuna Flavor (6.5oz Value P...
Pounce Moist Tuna Flavor Treats was given to us by a neighbor to try, since the cats, well usually Frisky loves treats, I wasn't going to turn it down.
These treats come in a 6.5 oz tall plastic container and has a new flip top lid for easier serving. I don't think it really makes it easier to serve the treats, the whole lid pops open, so you can still pour out too much, I think it would have been better for only half of the lid to actually pop open, but that's just me.
These treats are small bite sized treats for your cats made with real tuna according to the label and it does have tuna in the ingredient list, although it is not listed until number nine on the list, after a bunch of other stuff. These treats are shaped like little fish and are light in color with a darker center, which I'm assuming is the tuna. They are moist treats, so cats with sensitive teeth shouldn't have a problem chowing these down.
There is no fishy smell to these treats at all, they smell like any typical treat, nothing overpowering here. I would have thought that since it has real tuna in it that it would have some kind of fishy smell, but they don't.
Of course the biggest test of a treat is how the cats like it. Shake the canister and see the cats come running, they know it's treat time. I popped open the lid and gave each cat three treats a piece at first. Frisky sniffed a couple times and then gobbled them up, nothing strange there, he loves almost everything. Reva sniffed and sniffed the treats, walked around them, sniffed some more, looked at me and then walked away. She wouldn't touch them. I pointed them out to Frisky and he slowly ate hers and walked away. That's the strange part there, he finished and didn't ask for more.
Another day, another try. I just gave Reva three, because she didn't eat any before and she basically sniffed them and walked away, obviously the smell didn't meet with her approval, we've had these treats for a while now and she has not eaten a single one.
I gave Frisky four or five treats, he sniffed and then ate them up, walked over to where Reva's were, sniffed them and walked away. I couldn't believe it.
As far as the taste test, I would have to say these failed, Frisky is not a finicky eater and he won't eat much of them, Reva on the other hand, well, we haven't found a treat or canned food she likes yet.
So, they failed the taste test, but how about nutritional value? Well, they fail here too, there is no nutritional value, these are basically junk food for cats, which most treats are, so if you're looking for a healthy treat for your cat, you won't find it here. First six ingredients are - wheat flour, animal digest, beef, water, glycerine and soybean flour. Tuna is in there, but not until ninth on the list of ingredients.
Normally, if the cats like a treat, but it's not really nutritional, I will recommend it as a once in a while thing, but tell people to stay away if they're looking for only a nutritional treat. I simply can't do that with this one. The cats just don't seem to like it and if Frisky won't eat more than a couple of pieces at a time, I don't think many other cats will like these either.
