| Natasha37's Full Review: Pure Bars Pure Organic Cranberry Orange Living Foo... |
I love the taste of Cranberry Orange Muffins, but since finding out years ago that they're loaded with fat and useless calories, I rarely indulge. These Pure Bars have that familiar tangy sweet taste I crave and are actually good for my body!
Some things these bars can boast about: Certified Organic ingredients, 400mg Omega 3, 4g organic fiber, nothing artificial, no preservatives, no refined sugar, no dairy, no gmo's, no transfats and they're gluten-free. These raw, unprocessed bars are also certified vegan and certified kosher. They list 1-1/2 fruit as their serving size.
I found this snack at my local health food store where I make it a habit to shop. One of the great things about shopping at a natural-type grocery is that a majority of the impulse items near the cash register are actually good for you. I always pick up something new on my way out, as a little treat for the ride home. I was actually excited to try this one because it is rare to find organic cranberries as an ingredient. I was half-way through my ride when I bit into this delicious chewy bar. The tart flavors of cranberry and orange burst onto my taste buds, and I was hooked.
Immediately, I went to their website when I got home (www.thepurebar.com)and read up on this product. I found out it comes in six flavors: apple cinnamon, cherry cashew, choc-chip trailmix, wild blueberry and chocolate brownie.
Ingredients, include similar ones to those found in my Cranberry Orange bar: Organic Dates, Organic Cranberries (with Organic Apple Juice Concentrate and Organic Sunflower Oil), Organic Walnuts, Organic Cashew, Organic Rice Protein, Organic Almonds, Organic Agave Nectar, Organic Orange Peel and Organic Orange Oil (in addition to 14 essential vitamins and minerals, healthy antioxidants and Omega 3 fats).
These bars aren't cheap at $1.99 each, but if you consider the cost of an organic apple and a handful of organic nuts, it's about the same. I clicked on the link to their on-line store and was about to order myself a box of 12, which is usually cheaper than buying them individually. Unfortunately, it also lists $6.50 as the price for shipping.
I Googled the Pure Bar and found it at several on-line stores, including Amazon. They were $22.06 for a box of 12 and eligible for free shipping (orders over $25). They also had customer reviews for most of the flavors. I noticed that the Cranberry Orange reviews weren't as high as the Cherry Cashew, so I ordered that flavor to try. The all-around favorite was Apple Cinnamon, which I thought my husband, who hates anything "healthy", might try as a way to add some fruit into his diet.
We received our bars free of shipping in just three days. I had to coax my husband to try this bar and told him if he didn't like it, I would eat them. He took a bite and jokingly grabbed the box and put it on the highest shelf in the cabinet amongst his other snacks. I'm 4'11" and can't reach, so it was his way of telling me he liked them. "Tastes like apple pie", he said.
I was disappointed with the Cherry Cashew flavor, which I found kind of bland. It has a little tartness, but it can't beat the Cranberry Orange flavor combination in my book. I'll still eat at least one a day until the box is gone, knowing they're full of organic fruits and nuts, which are part of a healthy diet.
