Pros: none
Cons: dirty room, smelly towels, mold, mildew, bad food, no pool and courtyard in disarray.
The Bottom Line: I do not recommend this particular place to anyone in the SLC, UT area. Buy a tent and find a camp ground instead!

| meleahk's Full Review: Quality Inn-Midvalley |
My son and I went out to Denver, CO., to visit with one of my daughters. While there we went up into Utah and then Idaho to visit family. Since my sister and her family were going on vacation we were only able to have dinner with them and then we went on to a hotel that I reserved out by the airport in Salt Lake City, Utah so we would be closer to our destination the next morning.
The Inn
I trusted that the Quality Inn Midvalley out by the airport of SLC, UT., would be a great place to stay. I have stayed at Quality Inns before as well as other Choice Hotels and have always enjoyed them and knowing that they do have a good reputation, why not give them another try. Sometimes their prices are way to high for my budget and sometimes the prices are just right.
Well, this time Quality Inn Choice Hotels turned out to be a bad choice for me. The cost of the room was 64.00 and that was discounted with my daughter’s UF Alumni Discount, which I was grateful for. The cost would have been 99.00 plus tax for the one night without that discount.
The check in was actually good. The gentleman knew what he was doing and he made things easy for that time of night. After 11 p. m. actually. He saw that we were tired and he saw that I was with my children and so he put us in a room that faced the courtyard and of course that made us all feel safer.
When we got to our room we were very disappointed to say the least. There was spots on the carpet that almost looked like blood stains. The room smelt bad. The sheets were sticky, which could have been because we were hot. The air conditioner did not work well. There was mold and mildew in the bathroom. The curtains were stained and hardly would open and close. A couple of the towels smelt like cigarette smoke, while a couple others smelt like they were soured from sitting in a washing machine to long before drying. There was not a lot that the nighttime attendant could do for us since there were no staff on that time of night. We just made the best of it and went to bed.
Other Stuff
The next morning there was breakfast, which was actually a nice size for a motel. There was eggs, pancakes, sausage, fruits, hash browns, cereals, juices and coffee and milk. I was actually impressed with that part until I tasted the food. The sausage was old and the eggs had some kind of flavoring that I am not familiar with. I noticed a lot of people not eating those items so it wasn’t just me. The coffee was nasty as well! And that was such a huge no no in my book!
There was pool, but it was empty. So that was out for anyone. The courtyard was dry and not pretty at all. The employees walked around with cigarettes in their hands while on the clock (explains the smell of the towels I think) and they were not very friendly either.
Some of the rooms had the sheets all turned every which way and had not been cleaned at all and looked like for days. I know this because walking to our room from the parking lot and from the breakfast area, I saw several rooms in this condition. I felt that the curtain should have closed at least but that is just me.
How I Feel
We had gotten the last room of the night of that size and we just wanted to get to bed and to sleep. We were all disappointed when we saw the room and I was rather angry. For 64.00 I expected a better place to stay. Actually for any price I expect a decent room, clean sheets, clean towels, no mold or mildew anywhere and the air to be working.
I have made a complaint with the Corporate Offices and have yet to hear back from them. I will certainly not stay there again and the problems with that room will stay with me a long time and I will think about the condition of that room the next time I go to stay at another Quality Inn.
Choice Hotels are usually great places to stay but it would seem I got a hold of a bad apple this time around, which happens. Just wish it had not happened to my family and me at such a late hour and no where else to go.
I think that people need and deserve a great place to stay while traveling. That being said, I think that especially in these days of hardship that hotels and motels need to make sure that their establishments are top notch at a good price! At the very least all things in a room should be cleaned.
I hope that this has helped in some kind of way.
God Bless!
