eopineeopine's Full Review: RCA RD1000 Kazoo (32 MB) MP3 Player
This MP3 device has an excellent sound quality and is very portable. It is widely touted as used for workout music, since it is durable--that is correct. The internal memory at 32MB seems small, yet two MMC cards solve that questionable dimension summarily. If the smart shopper searches the Internet,64MB MMC cards can be found at very, very low cost. The headphones also happen to be a perfect set for one who likes to run,as they do not slip down. They allow good disposition on the head for optimum listening.A tip: when first the MMC card is loaded a message will appear asking if the card should be formatted or not.You will see a rectangle on the screen of the Kazoo blinking from the time the card is first inserted, and then the player is turned or the player is connected to the computer.Simply answer yes to the request for formatting the card, the message will disappear, and the rectangle will stop blinking and remain constant.Next, the task is to have the computer through MusicMatch recognize the added memory. With the MP3 unit connected to the computer go to the Portable Device Manager under View. You will see the internal memory quota displayed in the small window of the Device Manager. Now the idea is to get the Device Manager to see the new 64MB card input of memory capability. It must first be opted for before you will see it and thus be able to record to it.To do this click onto Tools/Options/Settings.You will see the General tab right there, and at the top of the box a Device heading in blue ink.It will give you the option you are looking for where it says Select Device and allows a drop-down menu. The first option in the sequence may appear to be the same as the second, and both will say K@zoo!.The first option can be selected, but you will find that it is the one you are in,and no dialogue box will appear. If you select the second option, the lower one,a dialogue box will appear saying that the current portable device has been changed. When it asks if you want to save this change, opt for yes,and in the Portable Device Manager window will appear the new memory available. Now you can record to the MMC card.
An excellent feature of the Kazoo is itself a five-star feature, the sound quality. The sound fidelity is uncannily pleasing to the ears and brilliant. As a composer, each note and every instrument carries the moment for me maximally. Of course there are speaker systems in the macro-world which are brilliant, there are special acoustic effects achievable, and there is Carnegie Hall. But the micro-world of the MP3 is another place, and hearing my favorite concertos on the Kazoo is an unforgettable experience. The clarity is perfect, the statement is bold. The listener is one-to-one with sound, and the sound is perfectly transmitted with no in-betweenness to remind you of equipment or the desire to attain perfection in sound quality. This invention in digital music listening further affords the listener the personal leverage to create the repertoire totally and revel in it at no expense of privacy to others. The MP3 is meant to be used like a maverick--wherever you are. This is certain to enrich the music cultural scene.
