| manofstone's Full Review: Radica Play TV Baseball |
The Radica Play TV Baseball 2 is a decent game. In terms of setup, it is a breeze, although it does require 6 AA batteries. Unlike other video games, this requires a decent amount of room, as you swing the enclosed foam bat, and you do a simulated throw of the baseball. You can choose to play against the computer or a person, and can play an actual game or a demo.
You can choose the difficulty level of the game, and in 2 player mode choose the type, speed, and direction of the pitch. Basically the batter stands in front of a replica of home plate, that you position in front of your TV. When you see the "ball" come at you, you swing. That is it. There is no strategy...just swinging. The graphics are cheesy Japanese animation graphics, and rival late 70's technology, rather than current technology.
The sound effects are relatively lame, but it is still kitschy fun. The "statistics" of the players seem to have no relevance to their actual performance.
You can choose a 3, 6, or 9 inning game, as well as the ballpark and opponent. All in all, it is a decent game, although the graphics are lacking compared to modern graphics.
You or your children will occasionally get a kick out of it, but it is certainly not an educational toy (although it might help with hand - eye coordination.
