| bud41's Full Review: Red Roof Hendersonville Nc |
I had noticed that Red Roof Inn Hendersonville had been listed as the most popular hotel in Hendersonville on a travel site. As a frequent visitor to the area I decided to give it a try. Rates were high the weekend I wanted to attend due to the Apple Festival and approaching fall season. but, at $89.00 it was one of the most economical so I booked.
I made the reservation online at the hotel chain site- quick and easy.
Arrival
We got there around 1:30 pm. Driving to the end of Mitchelle Dr ( just off I-26), we were delighted it was at the end of this "motel row" in a quiet cul-de-sac, and adjacent to an Outback Steakhouse. For festival time, there were few cars in the lot - but I found out later most of the guests were vendors and were all downtown setting up and running their booths.
We walked into the nice lobby and the desk clerk was sitting behind the counter. She never got up. Clad in blue jeans and a ring through her nose, it was not the most professional of appearances. If she greeted me, I don't recall it. I do recall greeting HER! LOL. A room was ready so we checked in- although my request for top floor was not honored. Non-smoking was.
I thought it odd that in the twenty-first century I had to hand write all of my personal info on a form after I had already done that online - name, address, car, phone, etc....It was like going back in time 30 years.
The Room
Visibly clean, this is a sparse room. It's made for sleeping and showering. There are no frills - no coffee maker, no hair dryer, no laundry bag, no iron...you get the picture. I will say the TV had a good cable selection and the A/C worked great. The bed was somewhat hard but the bedding seemed adequately clean. The room also contained a wing backed chair, a desk, phone, and alarm clock.
The closet area is small - as is the sink. Tub and toilet are in a separate room. Lighting was poor. The worst aspect was the odor in the tub area. A foul odor was coming through the ventilation duct in the bathroom. After looking out the window and seeing an odd concoction of sewer drain pipes above ground and run through standing cement blocks, I concluded that something was terribly wrong with the construction here.
The hotel was reasonably quiet except for some bumping sounds from the room above and a few slamming doors.
Breakfast was a joke- cereal and doughnuts. One bright spot was a coffee machine that ground fresh beans and brewed each cup - even flavored coffees.
There are virtually no other amenities- no pool, no workout room, not even a newspaper stand.
My overall impression was that the hotel was not good enough for a repeat stay and I did not get a good value. There are better properties in the area and I cannot recommend this hotel. The only reason I can see why this hotel was rated highly on the travel website I consulted might be due to the fact that it was relatively new when most reviews were written,or perhaps these are passing travelers who have not stayed much in the area.
