Or The Story Of The Orange-Peel Effect And How I Got Rid Of It...
About 2 months ago, I went to the local drugstore (we call them Monoprix here) and decided to go all out to make myself perfect for the upcoming Haute Couture shows (there are way too many perfect bodied Brazilian girls on the market now, which makes me -- small breasted and white as paper -- feel quite inadequate). I ended up spending about 60 dollars on beauty products, which is quite a lot considering this was in a drugstore.
One of the products I picked up was Roc Retinol Actif Pur Anti-Cellulite Treatment. This is because, although I have skinny, long legs, they are still full of cellulite and are in dire need of firming and toning (I shall blame this all on my mother, how could she). I talked extensively to the pharmacist that was present (trust me, unlike in drugstores in the US, these people actually know all about their products and are quite informed people) and I described to her the condition of my legs and after long discussions and plenty of pondering, we opted for the Roc.
The reason we opted together for Roc instead of the other products is:
- I needed a product that was also very moisturizing, as this is another big problem for me (even super duper moisturizers don't do enough for me), and this was actually the only anti-cellulite treatment that she said was moisturizing as well.
- It was less expensive then the other ones.
- She told me that this product actually really worked, and that even she used it (these people don't lie about these things, they don't get commission, and even if they did, they are totally non-interested).
- On top of fighting cellulite, it claimed to also tone your legs.
So, 60 dollars later, I trekked back home with my heavy bag, all excited to try this "miracle" product. I opened it as soon as I got home and used it. Following are the true facts on my experimentation.
Packaging
This product comes in an aluminum, rounded, tall container that is 5.07 ounces and has a pump on it with a plastic, clear cover. Now the pharmacist warned me of a problem with the container and then I discovered that this problem was also noted on the actual container (which is quite smart): if you do not pump the pump (use the product) for more than a few days, the pump will block and will not be able to function anymore. The pharmacist told me that it was actually a blessing in disguise because that kind of forced you to use this product regularly and I do agree with her.
The Actual Product
It is this kind of gooey, salmon-colored, translucent gel. The scent isn't awful, but it isn't that pleasant either. It is a very chemical scent, kind of like an alcohol scent, not floralized at all or perfumed. Don't laugh about this guys, but the taste is actually not bad, for those of you who are wondering. No really, don't laugh, but the first day I put it on, I went to see my boyfriend later on and he was kissing my legs and I told him to stop because my new product smelled pretty bad so I was worried that it might taste awful. But to my surprise, he said that it kind of tasted good! So that's one really important thing not to worry about (just kidding). Ok, on to more serious things now, the gel feels quite nice when you apply it on, it is quite cool-feeling and spreads very well, which means you don't have to use a lot of it. What's also a good point is that it isn't sticky, it goes right into your skin and makes it feel silky and doesn't stick afterwards, which is a nice change from moisturizers that make your clothes stick to you afterwards. Well this one doesn't.
The Effectiveness
Well, it actually performed quite well, and I am now a happy, cellulite-free model that can tell you that it did everything that it promised. First of all, this product actually moisturizes my legs better than any other moisturizer I have ever tried before. This is quite a change for me, as I was also getting desperate about the flakiness of my legs. And as I mentioned above, the gel doesn't stick and goes in quickly. I even use it as a moisturizer on the rest of my body, but sshhhh, don't tell anyone about that. I noticed right away (after the 3rd use), that this product was amazingly working. Not only was my skin losing that orange-peel effect and gaining a more even look, but my skin was almost noticeably more firm looking. The only annoying part is that I have to apply it everyday, although it even recommends on the packaging that you apply it twice a day (but this is a little too extravagant and time-wasting for me). But you can imagine now, after 2 months of usage, I am virtually cellulite-free! I am in fact, almost one of those annoying Brazilian goddesses (you know, except for having small breasts and being white as paper and having not butt and so on and so on). Anyhow, what more could you possibly ask for?
What They Say
"RoC® introduces a fundamental discovery: the power of Retinol against the appearance of cellulite (patented discovery). With Retinol Concentré anti-cellulite, the orange-peel effect is reduced by 39% in 8 weeks.
RoC® discovery:
Advanced dermatological research has proved the power of Retinol, a pure and active form of Vitamin A, to fight the appearance of cellulite.
RoC®, the expert in Retinol technology, has combined three powerful ingredients in a unique formula to visibly reduce the orange peel effect of the skin: Retinol, made of pure and active vitamin A, re-stimulates cell activity, Caffeine helps to break-down existing fatty deposits, Ruscus stimulates micro-circulation, to help the skin drain away water and fat.
The results: RoC® Retinol Concentre Anti-cellulite reduces the 'orange peel' appearance of skin by 39% in 8 weeks (clinical tests Vs placebo). Improvements continue with prolonged usage."
So, overall, I think there is no better product on the market, and I am very pleased with Roc Retinol Actif-Pur Anti-Cellulite Treatment, which has kept all of it's promises, and more.
