sojournseeker's Full Review: Royal Dansk Luxury Chocolate Wafer Cookies OFX5783...
This particular foodstuff has always been the favored addiction of people around the world. It is sweet, it melts, it covers, it bathes stuff in, it encourages, it mixes well with many different things, plays well with other foodstuffs and over all provides a genuine feeling of yum when consumed, not in mass quantities of course.
This review is on the oblong upstanding tin holding 3.5 ounces or 100 grams of 15 chocolate wafer sticks filled with creamy and delicious and healthy chocolate cream. ROYAL DANSK is famous for its line of desserts and confectioners dream stuffs that are rich in calories, high in fat but far better for you then the average sugary snack.
The Luxury Wafers are huge thin slabs of wheat flour that is flattened, dusted with the cocoa, lathered with coconut and or palm oil then sliced into thousands of small individual sized portions and rolled before landing on a humungous cookie sheet in a kiln or oven, probably the the latter as who still owns in a residential home a kiln ? Anyway this delicious and healthy, I keep saying healthy because I was thrilled to see no use of hazardous additives for color, taste or even texture enhancement is used in this snack food. I know the calories and fat content are still high but I am very little and could use some meat on my bones for winter.
The tin is royal blue background with a huge white china platter of these luxury wafers arranged so deliciously. With a pale rose-colored pink and choice of gold for the lettering, the tin itself is quite attractive. That is great marketing . . .
I love the price on this too, $1.oo for 15 snack sticks ! Straight from the store there is a secure sticky seal tape all the way around the lid for freshness and tamper-proof. If unwrapped, missing or partially torn, do not buy it. Inside without even opening up the white baggie the delicious snack sticks are in, you can smell the rich aroma of chocolate. Once opened which is a trick unless you see the small notch that tears down into the baggie, you’ll be reaching for scissors. The ROYAL DANSK LUXURY WAFER CHOCOLATE-Creme filled sticks are definitely rolled bi-colored wheat and rice flour due to the coloring. It is speckled with dark spots of brown amongst the lighter colored possible hazelnuts and rice hulls ground into the flours offering a melt-in-your-mouth tasty crunch. The crème filling is darker, sugary and emphasizes a granular smoothness.
These are not hollow so dunking them in milk will not bring up chocolate milk; it will however add to the delicious texture when drenched in cold organic temptation may be generously satisfied. There is not much to one stick besides indulging in the guilty pleasure associated cognitively with ‘chocolate is not good for you’. In this case, it is. Ingredients: (although many, all safe, healthy and body tolerable) *some allergy exacerbators Sugar-- not specified as raw brown cane or processed, bleached refined white sugar *Wheat flour-- is the most used and processed for a variety of products. This is more brown hen there is a high gluten content while nearly pale in comparison to white rice when very low in gluten. Palm Oil-- is naturally a reddish color because it is high in beta carotene and it is a plant oil derived from the pulp of the palm plants and is high unlike other vegetable oils in saturated fat. This plant oil contains several saturated and unsaturated fats such as lauric (0.1%, saturated), myristic (0.1%, saturated), palmitic (44%, saturated), stearic (5%, saturated), oleic (39%, monounsaturated), linoleic (10%, polyunsaturated), and linolenic (0.3%, polyunsaturated) acids. (All these acids explain why after eating a few of these, you just have to brush your teeth with baking soda because you can feel the enamel being corroded away . . .) Tapioca starch-- is nearly gluten and protein free used primarily as a thickening agent from the liquid this staple found in the Amazon (now grown commercially worldwide) forest for enhancement of consistency. This root of the cassava plant is used to assist in bonding glucose to dextrose to cocoa and fermenting properly within the wheat and rice flours upon baking without becoming brittle on the inside of the wafer. Cocoa processed with Alkali-- is simply upgraded chocolate. Adding the alkali component it offers the Dutch process cocoa, more rich in antioxidant properties neutralizing since it is less acidic more dark, more creamy, more healthy and mellow in flavor than what is generally available in most of the world. There is cardiovascular benefits manifested in eating chocolate as it is rich in flavenoids although by processing and alkalizing this richness and concentration is cooked out so dark chocolate is the BEST.
Regular (non-alkalized) milk chocolate based products containing cocoa is acidic, so when cocoa is treated with an alkaline ingredient, generally potassium carbonate, the pH increases and our bodies reject this or accumulate dangerous levels of ill-metabolized fat because our pH is out of whack. Regular chocolate with milk and emulsifiers and lecithin is not good for you--ROYAL DANSK LUXURY WAFERS are not using the best cocoa but a fair healthy portion of an in between good for you cocoa. Rice Flour-- the inner softer kernel is ground and mixed with the wheat flour for diversity. Corn starch-- a carbohydrate derived from the kernel of corn that has been steamed dried and processed for baking and other cooking use. A thickening agent. *Dextrin-- is a low molecular weighted down carbohydrate that is starch and of the polysaccharide family which are complex sugars regularly converted into energy. I found out this is the ‘crisp’ factor to these tasty snack sticks. Caramel color-- is rendered by heating appropriately carbohydrates to a suitable texture to add to a variety of foodstuffs. More tme consuming but not a health hazard like adding a red #40 or fd&c yellow #5 or #6--this caramelization process is derived from natural carbs. Milk; Salt;
*Whey-- is the last part of milk after straining of curdled and crème portions of processing all that can be made from milk. If you have a lactose intolerance, be cautioned about eating this and if not sure consult your primary health care practitioner--(oops you might not have one so consult your own body). Dairy creamer which has the whey, coconut or palm oil, natural flavor which to mine lips is left up to the eater I suppose as a non-specific flavor is offered here and soy lecithin as an emulsifier and thickener as well as bonder of sugar to starch and vice-versa. Artificial Vanilla flavor-- this one irritates me as they could use ground vanilla bean in concentrated form as well as use essence oil, but don’t. I smell it and slightly taste it but heck whatever for using artificial when vanillin is sooooo much tastier !
Last ingredient is eggs--yes that controversial little miracle food which houses both good and bad cholesterol and yet if you don’t eat em you lack protein, if you do you lack common sense. The media has taken eggs from both extremes and found no happy medium--until ROYAL DANSK LUXURY WAFERS put this into their product. Its raising cholesterol but adding for flavor of the best kind why settle for junk?
This is the really good thing . . . Now onto the Nutrition Facts:

The least favorable piece of information on the entire tin, which leads me to believe our manufacturers are less concerned with this problem, the product is produced and packed for a distributorship called Kelson, Inc working out of Mellville New York. Why Can’t the Mellville community of people work at the Mellville plant and say gee this product is now produced and packed for Americans by Americans . . .
Oh well its as near perfection as you are going to get for a snack food you can trust which can only kill ya if you don’t exercise AT ALL after eating a bunch of these. So go to the store and stock up on them cause I only paid $1.oo for 15 !
Thank you for reading and
Enjoy !
