| VNDiscovery's Full Review: Intel Desktop Board CC820 (KCC820PAK10) Motherboar... |
While writing a review about " 3Com 56K Faxmodem Internal ", I have mentioned about the computer I built couple years ago that I had problem with. Last weekend, I decided to do some research to this system...I know...I know...it's old…forget about it. I spent two hours at www.Intel.com and I didn't find any solution for it. But...
Surprise...Surprise...Surprise... Looks what I found
The Intel Desktop Board CC820 with the new Intel 820 Chipset has problem. This motherboard has nothing to do with my system. I think that I should bring it up to help some my readers. Well, if you have a computer that hangs up several times during operation, you should check your motherboard and make sure you don't have this motherboard or if you know that you own this motherboard you should call Intel Technical Support for more information.
According to the articles that I have read, "Intel has found that some boards using the MTH (memory translator hub) may be sensitive to system noise under extreme conditions, and this issue may manifest itself in intermittent system reboots or system hangs during operation. This noise sensitivity may result in data loss and/or corruption. Intel has placed the MTH component and Intel CC820 Desktop Board Family with SDRAM on shipment hold. The MTH component is also used on some other vendor's boards and systems using the Intel 820 Chipset with SDRAM."(Intel®)
Also another article has mention that "if you are using a system with a CC820 board installed and would like a refund or replacement for the CC820 board, please contact your place of purchase for information. The refund is the most expedient option. Intel's replacement option is an Intel Desktop Board VC820. Initial quantities of Intel Desktop Board VC820 plus RDRAM replacement product are expected to be available starting the week of June 19, 2000."(Intel®)
