Plextor Plexwriter 8/4/32
I currently own a Plextor and have tried a Yamaha and HP cd recorders. I would have to say that the Plextor Plexwriter is one of the best cd recorders out there. It has a large amount of buffer memory to ensure that your cd is created without errors. I have used it for about a year now and I think it is great.
My Plextor:
The Plextor that I currently have is an external Plextor Plexwriter 8/4/32 and uses SCSI.
My experience:
I have used this Plextor cd recorder for most of the cd recording software and it works great. The software I have used ranges from Easy CD Creator to CDRWIN. The Plextor records fast at 8x speed and reads at 32X speed. One of the major things I have noticed between different CD records is the time it takes to spin up the CD to be able to read it. It certaintly spins it much faster than the Yamaha and the HP CD recorders. That results in less time to put in and read the CD. I have heard about some horror stories regarding cd burners. For example, my friend told me that his internal cd recorder damaged his hard drive and some other parts because it was placed to close. I completely recommend getting an EXTERNAL cd burner than an INTERNAL. Another thing, I hear a lot about how a cd can burn you if you hold it in your hand right after it is finished burning it...the Plextor does not do that. After I finish writing a cd on my Plextor, it only feels warm, not hot.
Overall, my Plextor has served me well. So far, I had never had any sort of problems with it in terms of maintenance or reliability. Plextor is truly a fine company when you are talking about CD/CDR/CDRW drives. I believe their products are inexpensive and affordable. If you are looking for a decent CD recordable drive, go for Plextor. It includes bundled software and the quality from a fine company.
