Pros: Compact, smart design. Incredibly easy installation. Superior sound.
Cons: Lack of headphone jack.
The Bottom Line: Other than the unfortunate absence of a headphone jack on one of the satellites, the ATP 3 is probably the best buy you can get at this price range.

| BillMurray's Full Review: Altec Lansing ATP3W 2 Speakers |
Recently, I was in the market for a decent set of computer speakers for my new home office. Naturally, I visited epinions.com and quickly learned that this set of moderately priced speakers seemed highly rated. I took a chance, purchasing the ATP 3 without hearing it demonstrated, and am happy to say that these speakers greatly exceeded my expectations.
First, as an art director, I truly appreciate the very smart design of this combination. The satellite speakers have an incredibly small footprint considering they each house two dynamic microdrivers as well as a down-firing 3-inch mid/bass driver. This adds up to very rich low-end frequencies even without the sub-woofer. The pure aesthetics of the two satellites on my desk have prompted considerable curiosity from a number of people on first viewing.
Second, installation couldn't have been simpler. With an internal power supply, the beautifully sculptured sub-woofer helps avoid the clutter of an external power cube. Further, the sub is equipped with three colour-coded jacks to make installation of the three colour-coded patch cables so simple, anyone with a kindergarten diploma could set this system up in less than five minutes.
Third, and arguably most important, the quality of sound is vastly superior to anything I expected at this price range. The right satellite speaker encases the power/volume knob, a treble control knob, and a bass control knob. With the down-firing mid/bass speakers, I get rich bass and mid-range sound without having to pump up the subwoofer to chest-thumping frequencies. In fact, I now find myself listening to music as much on my computer than I do on my stereo system.
