| pablothegreat's Full Review: Safe Lok Cabinet and Drawer Locks |
I believed that this product was not needed in our home as I babyproofed the entire house before my daughter was born. I crawled on my hands and knees ensuring there was nothing dangerous that she could get into once she started crawling. No breakables at her level, no chemicals low to the floor, all detergents placed higher up, nothing that could endanger her. Most of my lower cabinets were empty and even the cat food found a new home!
Then my belief that I did not need cabinet locks was turned on it's head. The day my darling baby girl slammed both of her hands into a drawer. With her low pain reflexes, she did not even cry at her scraped hands. But mommy did. I went right out and hunted down every safety device known to man to lock down those evil, horrible cupboards and drawers that had hurt my precious baby.
Mommy is not a mechanically inclined individual but I thought this cannot be that hard to install!! Surely I can do this myself. I was able to easily install these locks on our cabinets but when it came to the drawers, I had problems. I did not have enough space to manuever around to tighten the screws up. I ended up getting so frustrated with it that I gave up until I got someone who was more mechanically inclined to install them for me.
These locks have a catch so when baby opens up the door or drawer, it locks into place about an inch open so the baby does not smash their fingers. To open the drawer, just push down and it easily unlocks. Babies are unable to do that. Most children were not able to figure it out as well as some older members of my family. I had never heard my mother curse until the day that she could not open up a single drawer or cupboard in my house. (Not to mention the toilet seat.)
Safe Lok Cabinet and Drawer Locks are very sturdy and do not come off easily. They are mounted with screws onto drawers and cabinet doors so they cannot be pulled off or knocked off. My daughter was not able to open up drawers or cabinets and never smashed her fingers again. 6 locks come to a package so I did have to buy a few packages to install them on all of our kitchen and bathroom cabinets and drawers.

What is so good about THIS product?
Effectively locks drawers and cabinets to prevent babies from getting into places that they should not and to stop them from closing the drawers on their fingers.
What is unique about this product?
Locks for cabinets and drawers.
Is it worth the price?
Really cheap at just over a dollar per lock. Worth it in my book!
What does this product look like?
2 solid hard plastic pieces that fit together to effectively lock drawers shut.
There has to be some bad to this product, right?
Hard to install on drawers, not enough room to mount them. Some people may not want to mount hardware onto their drawers and cabinets. Also when I tried to install one on a drawer, I ended up sealing it closed and I could not open the drawer at all but I was having issues installing it on the drawer. Once I had someone do it that was mechanically inclined, the locks worked great.
Where can I find this product?
Occasionally sold at Walmart and Kmart and online. I bought mine at Walmart but when I went back to buy some for a friend who had a baby, I could not find them in stock.
Any warnings people should be aware of?
Baby will still have some access into drawers and cabinets--it will leave a space of an inch open so little fingers could possibly still get into something!
