Description of Bedrail
The Safety 1st Bed Rail & Flashlight is made of a white & blue plastic. It has two planks which slide underneath the mattress. The white part that makes up the rail has a mesh like appearance that is plastic. This part can be lifted slightly and then folded down out of the way without taking it off the bed in the case a parent should want to sit on the bed beside their toddler. On the top of the rail is a detachable nightlight which is operated by batteries. It slides in a grove in the rail, fits securely so it doesn't just fall off. It's only a contact switch so the nightlight can't be left on continously. The bed rail itself is shorter than a toddler bed, so on a twin sized bed it would probably on the short side.
Why I bought it
When we moved my daughter to a toddler bed we realized we needed a bed rail so she wouldn't fall out at night, as she was a restless sleeper. We had one of the metal & mesh rails but it covered the whole length of the toddler bed--which is not what we wanted. We wanted a gap where my daughter could feel comfortable climbing out if she woke up. (If I wanted to keep her in it totally I would have kept the crib up.)
So my husband went shopping for a different bedrail and Safety 1st Bed Rail & Flashlight is the one he came home with. It's perfect for our needs! It keeps my daughter in bed at night but allows her to crawl out & come to our bedroom if she wakes up. And she can get in and out of bed by herself at any time, whether it's waking up in the morning, taking a nap, going to bed, or just playing.
The nightlight is a nice option. It's nice to have it available, especially if there isn't another nightlight in the room. We've never had a problem with the light working, and the batteries have lasted quite some time.
I have no complaints about the Safety 1st Bed Rail & Flashlight at this time. The only drawback I can see is it would run a little short on a regular twin bed. But for a toddler bed it's great.
