The Safety 1st Fold-Up Nail Clipper was one of many baby nail clipper gifts I received at my baby shower. I have a few The First Years baby clippers around, but the Safety 1st Fold-Up Nail Clipper is the only one I use. My son is now 2 and these clippers still work as good as they did when I first received them.
Unlike adult size finger nail clippers, the Safety 1st Fold-Up Nail Clipper has a smaller cutting area designed for tiny finger nails. This design allows for parent's to trim their baby's nails with ease.
In comparison to The First Years baby nail clippers, the Safety 1st Fold-Up Nail Clipper seems to cut cleaner, with a sharper edge. Since I am a licensed nail technician, I feel quite comfortable trimming infant nails. However, other's may want to take extra care using the Safety 1st Fold-Up Nail Clipper.
Also, unlike The First Years model, the Safety 1st Fold-Up Nail Clipper has a grip extension handle. This is my favorite feature and why I prefer the Safety 1st model. With the grip extension, the clippers measure almost 3 1/2 inches, instead of the common 1 1/2 inches. The extention is white and almost shaped like a flattened egg, fitting comfortably into any size adult hand.
Where do I buy these WoNdErFuL clippers?
The Safety 1st Fold-Up Nail Clipper can be purchased for under $5.00 at just about any major store that carries infant accessories. I have found them at Wal-Mart and grocery stores. I believe drugstore.com also carries them as well.
Nail Tech Advice
When a baby is first born, the skin underneath the nail is actually still attached to the WHOLE nail. If you try to trim an infant's nails before this skin seperates, you will cut the infant, causing bleeding. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND using an infant nail file until this skin seperates.
