cdgx1's Full Review: Sakar 24280/24282 Digital Camera
So I bought this little camera because I am an offroad motorcycle adventurer and I do not like to waste my cellphone battery for taking pictures when I may need it for emergencies.
So I found this one at WalMart for 15 or 20 bucks and have been using it for the better part of a year now.
It is fairly dummy proof for windows users. The program it comes with is intuitive and easy to set up. I was a bit disappointed at the fact that making VCD/DVD slideshows requires an additional download that they charge you for. Other than that though it does work.
The rechargable battery works good and recharges fairly quickly. As a webcam it works decently well although it has very few frills.
The sight window you use to take pictures with does not always seem to accurately frame what you get. You make up for this by taking multiple shots.
There are two compression settings and two quality settings, essentially a 640x480 "fine", 640x480 "draft", 320x240 "fine" and 320x240 "draft". I cannot personally discern a great deal of difference between "fine" and "draft" compression so I typically leave it on the 640x480 draft mode when I carry it around, meaning I get 50 or so shots.
It can take small video clips although obviously it is taxing to the memory and it doesn't get anywhere near a good framerate.
Picture fidelity is OK. It's fun to use the camera for artistic motion blurs. Color fidelity is not always perfect.
The little LCD screen prompts are a bit confusing at first but the manual is good enough to walk you through and eventually you will learn the controls if you use it enough.
I wouldn't recommend it to a lot of people, but it fills my niche of giving me a way to easily and efficiently carry a snapshot camera around a harsh environment. To that end I am satisfied.
