The Bottom Line: Bought them by mistake but grew to really love them.

Picking out a solid, well made and long lasting highlighter is always a challenge. Sanford has always been a leader in office supplies and a company that I completely trust; if you buy a Sanford product you are going to get a quality product but at the same time, a great guarantee that if you aren't satisfied, they are going to do what ever it takes to make you happy. I ordered the first pack of these online and must have clicked on the wrong product because I wanted a pack of yellow highlighters. Maybe it was fate stepping in saying that I needed to check these out; what ever the case, it was a mistake that definitely paid off. These aren't thick highlighters so they will have a limited number of uses but they are long lasting and have an even ink flow so you'll never end up with a big glob of ink soaking through the pages.
Sanford Pocket Accent Highlighters Five Color Set
There are two different versions of this highlighter; one that is retractable and one that isn't. I have used both of them and really prefer the ones that don't retract because there's less of a chance of them drying out if you forget to reclick them. The same could be said for these, if you don't recap them, they are going to dry out. These are more line pens than actual markers; there is a chisel tip to them but you aren't going to be able to get a lot of surface coverage from them. These would be best for students who want to highlight single lines of text or anyone that needs to work in smaller areas.
The highlighters come packaged in a plastic sleeve that can be used to store them; if you have ever had any of these plastic cases before you know that eventually the edges start to rip and it's only a matter of time before it is trashed. Since I am a little anal retentive about my pens, markers and highlighters I prefer to keep them separate so nine times out of ten these are sitting the drawer with a rubber band around them or with other Sanford highlighters. Yeah, I know, I'm weird like that.
Now, if you thought that last paragraph was strange, wait until I tell you that these are quiet. Yes, laugh now but wait until you get a highlighters that squeaks when you drag it across a page then you will appreciate my saying that these are 'quiet'. There can be a few small squeaks here and there if you are using this in textbooks but for loose leaf and poster board, they are dead silent. The chisel tip can be rotated to give you a little thicker of a line but if you want massive coverage, stick with the fat tip ones because these are best for highlighting one line of text at a time.
Color Assortment
One thing that I really like about this five color set is that there are some that are fluorescent and some that are not; this means that you can vary the degree of impact so if you are going through a book you have color options to highlight things that are extremely important in one shade and less significant things with the plain colors. The two fluorescent colors are green and yellow but the orange is questionable in my opinion. It is a little on the loud side but can't really be considered a true fluorescent shade when compared to the other two that definitely are. You cal get a really nice light blue and pinkish purple one. Well, I would comment on that color a little more but as soon as I brought the pack home, Annabelle saw it and immediately confiscated it, walking out of the room with a huge bit slightly evil grin on her face.
The ink in these markers is listed as being non-toxic so if you end up getting it all over your hands and arms when using it, it won't make you sick. The smudge factor is minimal as the ink dries fast on most surfaces. Slick, glossy or primed papers will take longer for the ink to dry on, if it does at all. The only time I ever had a problem with this not sticking on something [or smearing] was when I tried to use it on the edges of Polaroid film. No matter how long I waited for it to dry, it still smudged when I ran my finger along the edge.
The Bottom Line
I paid about four dollars for these when I got them online and in my opinion they are worth it. When I needed another pack I did have to pay about .75 cents more at Staples but I didn't mind because I had such great results with them in the past. The ink and color doesnt fade over time so you won't have to worry about the text or pages looking worn after a few months. They could make the plastic sleeve a but stronger but that's one of the only complaints that I have about this product.
As always, thanks for the visit
