The Nikon L4: small, compact, medium-quality digital camera.
Nature's killer.
One of these creatures can devour up to 16 double-A North American Energizers per day. The L4 has been observed by Camerologists for years, and the experts agree: your average Female L4 will eat up to twice its body weight before sunset. It requires this dietary intake to power its mighty flash bulb, as well as the 3x optical zoom.
Note how entire packs of batteries flee in terror when an L4 has been seen by the pack leader. Unlike other predators, the L4 does not merely weed out the old and weak. Its cold-blooded mind merely hunts the nearest pair of AA's, and it shows no mercy.
But nature balances, as you will see in this next piece.
Far north of its tawny neighbors, the White Stellars Eneloop AA can be seen in the wilds of Alaska. Note the arctic coloring that allows great packs of these graceful creatures to pass across the snow virtually unseen by predators.
But not always. A lone Canadian L4 is seen here, solitary and hungry. It crouches low as the Eneloops approach, ready to deal death.
And deal it does. With one fell swoop, two Eneloops disappear into the gaping maw of the L4! The rest of the pack disperses, burrowing into protective snowdrifts.
All is not lost, however. The Eneloop has evolved a most interesting form of protection for the herd. See how the L4 is no longer pursuing the rest of the AAs. This is due to something the explorer Cletus Stellar noticed when he first happened upon the Eneloop back in 1844:
Cameras who eat other batteries like potato chips last much longer between changes when they dine on Eneloops. A single pair of Eneloops allows these cameras to flash, take pictures and last longer than their southern counterparts. Some L4s in captivity have been observed eating batteries every 20 pictures or so, but those fed an experimental Eneloop Only diet could go as long as two or three hundred pictures between meals.
Thus does nature show again the mystery and glory of our universe.
