| Booogie27's Full Review: Scattergories |
My husband and I bought Scattergories mainly to play when we had some company over. It is a great game, that you don't have to be a genius to play. Sure, it is thought provoking, but not in a way that brings serious pressure along with it. It is meant to be a fun way to relax and enjoy with friends or family.
I think it is more fun to play with as many people as you can, but can be fun with just a few also. With the roll of the lettered dice, you come up with things to write about based on the lettered that was rolled. If it is an "R" and your category happens to be cartoon characters, a fun answer would be "Roger Rabbit". You would get double the points for that one for coming up with a two word answer that has the right letter. Where the fun comes in, is you have to be creative. You don't want to pick the most obvious answer. If you and someone else have the same answer, then neither of you get points for that word. That is where the hard thinking comes into play.
One thing I have found is that it is important to lay the ground rules with people you have never played with before, BEFORE you start playing. This way you don't have arguments down the line in the middle of the game for someone trying to get away with a ridiculous answer. That has happened to us several times. Then that can put a damper on the game.
This game would make a great gift. It can be played over and over again, and be different every time. It is great for parties, big or small. It is hours of fun.
