Scotts Turf Builder did it for me

If Scotts Turf Builder can save a lawn like ours, it can save anybody's.
As others on this site have said, I knew nothing about lawn care, fertilizers, and so on before buying our first house. Mystical terms like "de-thatch" meant zilch to me. What I did know, though, was that from the beginning our lawn looked pretty bad.
In fact, after two years in the house with no particular effort to improve the lawn, it was pathetic. One whole section under a large tree was basically dirt; another area near our back door was almost all weeds. What was left was brown, irregular, and scraggly. We tried planting some new grass seeds, and we tried watering, but the improvement was marginal at best.
So we went to our local home superstore and bought some Scotts Turf Builder. Actually, we bought a whole set of it, designed to be used throughout the year. We started with Turf Builder with Halts crabgrass preventer in the spring, and then Turf Builder with weed control in the early summer -- which really did reduce our weeds an amazing amount. It's September now, and we just put on Turf Builder with Insect Control a few weeks ago.
This may sound like a lot of work, but all you have to do is buy one of those spreaders, pour in the Turf Builder and walk it around your lawn. Then you just water it in -- or if you're lazy like us, put the fertilizer on when it's about to rain <g>. And if you're worried about forgetting, Scotts even has a free email reminder service which will notify you when your lawn needs to be fertilized again. How's that for service? And each bag only cost us about $20.
Now for the effects. This program has made a huge difference in our lawn. Not only is it actually green, which I thought I'd never see, but there is a lot more grass than weeds now. When I walk on it, it feels good on my feet. I'm no longer worried that our neighbors are rolling their eyes and worrying about their property values when they see our year. We will definitely be continuing to use Scotts Turf Builder from now on.
