| angel011's Full Review: LUSH Cosmetics Sea Vegetable Soap |
Sea Vegetable is, at least to me, one of the best-looking soaps Lush has ever made. My bar had a beautiful green/bluish color, and hardened seaweed at one end (no salt, even though it's supposed to have some), and I thought it looked very attractive as a gift for someone. The scent of the soap was nice, too -- I can't describe it, but it did remind me of the sea, very much.
One bar of Sea Vegetable I got as a present from my mother (at the same time she also gave me Honey, I Washed the Kids and Mud Flats), and I loved it. It smelled nice, it applied easily, rinsed off cleanly, and left me feeling clean and refreshed. It neither moisturized nor dried my skin. My boyfriend liked it too, it dried his skin a bit, but other than that, it was good for him too – the scent of this soap was neither too masculine nor too feminine, which made it a good soap for the whole family. Except for drying his skin a bit, the only other complaint we had about that soap was that it was a quick melter (like the rest of the Lush soaps, it should be kept away from water when not in use). Between the two of us, one bar of soap lasted us less than a month. We never found any use for the hardened seaweed – it didn’t hurt, but couldn’t be used for exfoliation either, it was just a weird-looking thing at the edge of the soap. It didn’t bother us in any way, though.
Since we both liked it so much, I bought another bar of Sea Vegetable. And liked it much less than the previous one.
The scent was a little different. I can’t describe the difference exactly, except that it was less refreshing. My boyfriend didn’t like the new scent at all. Another problem was that it dried his skin more than the previous one, and it dried mine a little too, although not enough to cause me problems. It took longer to apply than the previous one, there was almost no lather (there was some lather with the first bar), and it took a small eternity to rinse off.
Maybe it was in the shop for too long, I don’t know, but it was certainly not like the nice soap we both liked so much the first time.
Overall, I’d say that Sea Vegetable can be a very good soap – it certainly always looks good – but it can be lousy, too. The quality of it varies greatly.
Buy one if you feel lucky – or buy something else. I doubt I’ll be purchasing this one again.
