Pros: Moisturizes, cleans well, a little goes along way
Cons: Stinks, expensive, can be a little much for oily hair
The Bottom Line: A good product that performs well and does all that it promises too, if it didn’t stink it would get 5 stars.

| jaclynl's Full Review: Sebastian Xtah Shampaste Hair Wash |
I am a slave to all beauty product but hair products in particular I find impossible to resist. It seems like Im always trying a new shampoo or conditioner or shine serum for my hair. Up until now all shampoos had really been the same, they all smell different sure, and some are more drying than others, but generally speaking shampoo is shampoo. You get your hair wet, work it into a lather and then rinse it out; I always found the greatest difference in my hair came from the conditioner I used and not the shampoo. I was given the opportunity to try Sebastians Xtah line, this is a line of hair products that are geared at younger people with emphasis placed on trendy and hip hairstyles, but shampoo is shampoo, and since Im not into wild hairstyles I figured at least the shampoo would be okay to try out.
The Product
Sebastian Xtah Shampaste is just that, a shampoo that is very thick and comes out looking like a thick paste. It comes in a squeeze tube that sits on its lid, much like a bottle of deep conditioner, and certainly never shampoo. The shampoo itself is thick as mentioned before and a golden yellow color. The smell is disgusting, absolutely sick, I cant stand it. I have however read reviews from others that say they like the smell. I thought perhaps my bottle had gone rancid or something so I went to the salon and put my nose to their other bottles, and they all smell the same. I cant stand it so be forewarned that if you decide to give this a try to take a sniff at the store before you buy it. The bottle retails for around $20USD, I think I paid $27 Canadian for my 8.5 oz. bottle from my local salon. The Xtah line of products is somewhat hard to find, not all the salons that carry Sebastian carry the Xtah line around here, but some do.
Directions
Yes you need them with this
When this shampoo sits in the shower the steam makes it softer so that it is easier to squeeze out of the tube, if however youre like me and shampoo your hair first when you get in the shower it may be pretty stiff. It is sometimes necessary to squeeze the tube fairly hard and then run the shampoo around in your hands first to thin it out and make it easy to spread around on your head. If you try to apply the hard lump you have just squeezed out without warming it first you will find it hard to work through your hair. I rub it between my hands and then massage my scalp as usual and of course rinse.
How it Performs
Despite the stinky smell this product is almost perfect. As I said before I have never noticed that shampoo made much of a difference in the way my hair looks and feels but this shampoo certainly does. It is great for dry hair. I find that it adds so much moisture and makes my hair feel silky soft, softer than before, and thats even without a conditioner. I still use a conditioner afterwards but only put it on my ends and was able to switch to a lighter conditioner even in these colder months.
The lather on this product is great and as such only a very small amount is needed each time. The bottle is a fair size and has lasted me many months so far. I expect it to last about 6 more months even with daily use.
The only downside to the moisturizing ability of this product is that if you have oily hair it would only contribute to the problems. I tried using this product in the summer and it was just too much for my hair so I put it on the shelf and waited for the weather to get colder. Now that it is dry and cold and the static is back in full force, this product works beautifully to soften my hair and reduce the static that dry hair always has. On the other hand it may be good for those who like a little moisture but dont like to use a separate conditioner, this is certainly better than any two-in-one that I have ever tried.
Final Recommendation
If you are looking for a shampoo that truly moisturizes you hair this is the product for you. Your hair will feel soft and silky and definitely more manageable. Be warned though if you balk at high prices or have a sensitive nose this product might just put you over the edge. Although the smell makes me ill, I still manage to use the shampoo because I like the effects and I notice it doesnt linger long, the smell is already gone before I have rinsed the product from my hair.
