Pros: Adjustable, incredibly comfortable, 20 year warranty, great customer service, great value for money, financing.
Cons: Expensive, requires assembly and bad communication with financing.
The Bottom Line: Buy it, you'll sleep better. You can adjust it if your body changes (pregnancy, injury, minor weight gain). Also no dust mites so it's great for allergies.

| abotnick's Full Review: Select Comfort Sleep Number 4000 Traditional Bed |
I've tried many different kinds of mattresses from the high end metal coil, waterbeds, viscoelastic foam (Tempurpedic) and finally to the Select Comfort high end air beds. I could tell in the store that this bed fit the best. The Tempurpedic bed didn't feel good because it left too much pressure against my lower back and was only warranteed for 10 years prorated (however I do like a memory foam pillow). Waterbeds have a hammock effect and misalign the body. Select Comfort felt great at a sleep number of 35. I liked both the 4000 and 5000 pillowtop models. Although I couldn't afford it, I put it on my list of things to get eventually. Well the store changed models and a 4000 queen pillowtop went on sale for 40% off so I ended up buying it (they arranged financing with no payment for 90 days).
I don't understand what the problem is here with the negative reviews. Maybe these people rushed and didn't get the right model with enough thickness or padding but that's not the bed's fault. Fat people need thicker beds and some people like more pillowtop thickness. If you get the wrong bed you simply won't like it. Maybe they have some wierd medical condition that keeps them in pain. Select Comfort gives all nondiscounted beds a 30 day trial period so if you don't like it you get your money back. You won't find many regular mattress companies having enough confidence in their products to do that. I didn't get the money back guarantee because I got it discounted so I was very careful to check the bed out in the store. I am very glad that I did because I saved about $500 for taking the chance.
In short, I love this bed. It is like sleeping on a cloud. I hardly shift while sleeping. I get better sleep than on any other bed I have ever had. The 4000 pillowtop is perfect with a thick 18 oz mattress cover. It has a 20 year warranty.
The only downside is maybe that you should be careful with the high density foam sides not to squish them too much (the book says they can take it though) and the pump for the 4000 is a little noisy (though the 5000 is much quieter). So you may want to buy a 5000 if you are paying full price. Alternatively you can go to ebay and upgrade the pump on the 4000 for a 5000 model pump for only about $300 if it really bothers you.
Another thing is that you may want the 5000 because it has a thicker mattress if you are fatter. I lost weight and weigh about 165 lbs so the 4000 fits me perfectly. Try it out in the store and see what fits best.
Awesome bed. I totally recommend it. Buy it and you'll never go back. Well worth the money.
