I am a 41 year old, 135 lb. female. I bought the King size Select Comfort Ultra series mattress a year and a half ago. I was initially very happy with the mattress. Over time, the foam above the air chamber and below the "pillowtop" portion of the mattress has degraded. The mattress is very noisy when one of us turns over. After 4 months of owning the mattress, I began to experience back, side, hip and sciatic nerve (back of the buttocks area) problems. I did not correlate the mattress as being the source of my problems until recently. I went on a 2 week vacation and slept on a standard hotel coil mattress. My back and sciatic nerve problems began to improve after approx. 5 nights. When I came home from my vacation, my back/sciatic nerve problems began again after 4 nights of sleeping on my Select Comfort mattress. For me, this mattress simply does not offer enough support. I have spent over $1,000 on medical bills and assumed that I was developing arthritis. I stupidly bought the mattress after listening to popular radio talk show hosts sing the praises of the mattress. After reading many consumer reviews and trying different mattresses, I have ordered a standard coil mattress. My low profile box springs will take a few weeks and I have been sleeping on the floor. My back/hips/side have not felt this good in over a year. I feel like I have a new lease on life. I am writing this to hopefully spare someone else going through what I have gone through. I definitely do not recommend this mattress. It looks and sounds great but does not stand the test of time.
