| fuche_bu's Full Review: Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale |
I remember five years ago when I went to New York City on December 30 to see a band called Phish play at Madison Square Garden. My friends and I had a couple hours to kill before our train when the show was over. We decided to head down to Greenwich Village and have a a couple beers at a little bar called Chumley's.
They had numerous Christmas/winter beers on tap. They had holiday beers from Pete's, Harpoon, Sam Adams, Catamount, Wild Goose etc. We had a table near the fireplace and we began ordering rounds of beer and a couple appetizers. We were all tasting each other's beers to make comparisons. It was a great night, indeed. And let me state that the beer that stood out in my mind that night was the Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale.
This beer is one more reason Sierra Nevada has earned a reputation as a world class brewery. If you love hops then this is a beer for you. The hops call your attention in the nose. Grapefruits are in season when you consume this beer. A big head on the pour suggests that you are in for quite a treat. And at 6.8% abv, you're going to get a nice kick from this beer. It's bitterness does give way to a mellower finish. This is not really a standard holiday ale. It is really an IPA pretending to be a Christmas ale but you won't hold it against them. The omnipotent hops will satisfy your soul.
This one is for serious beer drinkers. I like it on a cool afternoon in December or as a pub beer. It is great to enjoy by a fireplace. That night at Chumley's five years ago still stands out in my mind as one of my best beer experiences ever.
